-SPIKES LOOK TO KEEP EARLY DIVISION LEAD VS. MUCKDOGS: The State College Spikes continue their second series of the 2014 season tonight as they welcome the Batavia Muckdogs to Medlar Field at Lubrano Park. The Spikes, who took sole possession of first place in the New York-Penn League's Pinckney Division with last night's win, have now won 29 of their last 33 regular season home games stretching back to July 6 of last year. State College is 40-41 all-time against Batavia, inlcuding a 23-19 record in games played at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park.

-LAST NIGHT: Rowan Wick smashed his New York-Penn League-leading fifth home run of the season, and Luis Perdomo's six sparkling innings fueled a shutout pitching effort as the State College Spikes defeated the Batavia Muckdogs, 8-0, on Tuesday night at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park.

Wick collected three hits total on the night, with his solo home run to the right field bleachers in the second inning setting the tone for a dominant offensive performance by the Spikes. The 2012 ninth-round draft choice also tallied a pair of RBI during his 3-for-4 night, running his total in that column to a league-leading nine through five games.

Perdomo made the longest outing for a Spikes pitcher so far this season, logging six innings and scattering six hits while striking out six batters. The right-hander's only trouble was in the second inning, when he elicited two quick pop-ups to escape a bases-loaded, one-out jam.

-ANDERSON MAKES MOUND DEBUT FOR SPIKES TONIGHT: Right-hander Will Anderson gets the mound call tonight for State College in his first start as a Spike. The Pleasanton, CA native did make a relief appearance for Advanced-A Palm Beach earlier this season, going three innings for a save against Fort Myers on May 3. Anderson spent 2013 with the Cardinals' Rookie-level affiliate in Johnson City, going 2-3 with a 4.71 ERA over 11 appearances, nine of them starts. The righty finished his first pro season strong, going 2-1 with a 2.16 ERA in the month of August. Anderson was the Cardinals' 26th-round selection in the 2014 MLB Draft out of Cal State-Monterey Bay.

-BATAVIA TAPS BELTRE FOR START: Right-hander Andy Beltre makes the start for the Muckdogs tonight. Beltre has already made his first appearance of the New York-Penn League season, allowing just one unearned run on two hits while striking out eight over five innings in a no-decision against Auburn on Opening Night. Beltre, a native of the Dominican Republic's capital city of Santo Domingo, made two appearances for Single-A Greensboro in April of 2013, giving up four runs in five innings of work before his season came to an end.

-WICK-ED WITH THE BAT : Rowan Wick has been on a historic tear through the beginning of the Spikes' season, becoming the only player in franchise history with five homers through the season's first five games. The five homers are also tied with 2006 Spike Mark Hamilton for the most in the month of June in club history. Wick's nine RBI tie him for the best mark of any player in the New York-Penn League, and his .529 average tops the loop.

-CH-CH-CHANGES : Five players - RHP Steven Farinaro, RHP Dailyn Martinez, LHP Ian McKinney, INF Rafael Medina and INF Chris Rivera - were transferred down to Rookie-level Johnson City today after starting the year with the Spikes. OF Brian Vigo-Suarez was also placed on the 7-day DL. To replace them, the Cardinals have activated a total of five 2014 draft picks: INF Danny Diekroeger, LHP Austin Gomber, RHP Danny Poncedeleon, OF Chase Raffield and RHP Cody Schumacher.

-SPIKE MARKS: The Spikes' 2-0 start to the year was the first in franchise history...Nick Thompson has at least one RBI in each of his first five professional games, and he is third in the NYPL in RBI behind Wick and Jamestown's Taylor Gushue...Spikes manager Oliver Marmol played for Batavia in 2007, when the Muckdogs were a Cardinals affiliate...The Muckdogs committed four errors in last night's game, the most by a Spikes opponent since June 25 of last season
