'Gades Fall for the First Time in 2014

Brooklyn, NY (6/17/14)- The Hudson Valley Renegades dropped their first game of the season on Tuesday night, falling 5-1 to the Cyclones at MCU Park. With the loss, the 'Gades fall to 4-1 overall, but still stand alone in first place of the McNamara Division. Hudson Valley was the last remaining unbeaten team in the New York-Penn League heading into tonight's game. They will have two more chances at the Cyclones this series, hosting them at Dutchess Stadium on both Wednesday and Thursday night.

D.J. Slaton started on the hill in the team's first road contest of the season, going five innings with two walks, four hits and six strikeouts. After a 3-run Brooklyn bottom of the first inning, he recovered nicely going the next four with just one run scoring. Of the four runners plated during his outing, only two of them were earned.

Josh Kimborowicz came on in relief for the Hudson Valley starter, and totaled three innings of one run baseball with a walk and a strikeout. Even with five total Cyclone runs scoring in the game, Hudson Valley still doesn't have a pitcher who has surrendered more than two earned runs in any outing.

Their pitching staff leads the NYPL with a 4-1 record, a 1.38 ERA, 52 innings pitched, and only 12 opponent runs.

At the plate, Hunter Lockwood picked up two base hits, going 2-4 overall. Clayton Henning, Leopoldo Correa, Wilmer Dominguez and Douglas Duran were responsible for the other four renegade base knocks.

With every team in the league having completed 5 games, the Renegades are third in overall batting, and first in the McNamara. Their one run scored on Tuesday night was the lowest total of their five games played.

Notes: Hudson Valley has the best record in the McNamara Division at 4-1, with Brooklyn and Staten Islandrdtied for second at 3-2. Aberdeen is now 0-5, after dropping their first four to the 'Gades and their next one to the Yankees. All four teams will be in action on Wednesday night, as Brooklyn visits Dutchess Stadium and the IronBirds play again in Staten Island.

Hudson Valley and Brooklyn will have first pitch at 6:05 on Wednesday evening. The 'Gades will send Hunter Wood to the mound against Brooklyn's Alberto Baldonado.
