'Gades Fall in Extra Innings to Cyclones
June 18, 2014 - New York-Penn League (NYPL)
Hudson Valley Renegades News Release
Wappingers Falls, NY (6/18/14)- The Hudson Valley Renegades fell 4-3 to the Brooklyn Cyclones on Wednesday night, handing them their first loss of the season at Dutchess Stadium. It was the second time in back to back nights that the Cyclones bested the 'Gades, as the two teams now share the best record in the McNamara Division (4-2).
In yet another game that started out as a pitcher's duel, Hudson Valley carried a one run lead into the top of the ninth inning. After Amed Rosario homered to tie things up at 3, it was off to extra innings for the third time in six games.
A couple of fielding errors in the top of the tenth proved to be costly for Hudson Valley, as Joe Tushak was able to advance to third with one out. A sacrifice fly to left-field scored him later, giving Brooklyn the one run lead. A lead they would not surrender in the bottom frame of the inning.
Offensively, the Renegades had three players with multi-hit performances. Hunter Lockwood and Wilmer Dominguez both went 2-4, and Coty Blanchard had his second 3-hit night as he finished 3-4.
Hunter Wood responded well to a first inning homerun in his second start of the season, going 5.2 innings with only one earned run and two strikeouts. In two starts this year, he's let up just one earned run in 9.2 innings overall. Good for an impressive ERA of .93.
Notes: The Renegades pitching staff still leads the New York-Penn League in overall team pitching. The offense has seen at least one three hit performance in five out of the six games played this season. With the loss, they are still tied for first in the McNamara and two games above .500.
Hudson Valley and Brooklyn will have first pitch at 6:05 on Thursday evening. The 'Gades will send Enderson Franco to the mound against Brooklyn's Octavio Acosta. Thursday is "It's Me Mario" night at the ballpark, great seats are still available. Call 845-838-0094, or visit www.hvrenegades.com to purchase your tickets now.
