-SPIKES OPEN 2014 HOME SLATE WITH CROSSCUTTERS: After scoring their first season-opening win since 2007, the State College Spikes hit the field for the first time at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park in 2014 as they face the Williamsport Crosscutters in the second game of a four-game series. The two teams will alternate game sites through the four-game series, as the Spikes visited the Crosscutters on Friday at Susquehanna Bank Park at Historic Bowman Field, and the two teams will meet in Williamsport on Sunday and in State College on Monday. The Spikes are 47-50 all-time against Williamsport, and won the 2013 SawBuck Series by going 8-4 against the Crosscutters.

-LAST NIGHT: Rowan Wick became the eighth player in Spikes history to hit two home runs in one game, and his five runs batted in propelled the Spikes to a 10-3 win over the Williamsport Crosscutters in the 2014 season opener on Friday night at Susquehanna Bank Park at Historic Bowman Field . Wick, playing his first game in a State College uniform, smashed a two-run homer to center field in the fifth inning to put the capper on the Spikes' six-run frame. The 2012 ninth-round draft choice of the Cardinals then launched a three-run dinger to right-center field in the ninth to provide the final scoring of the night.

The Spikes also received solid pitching from starter Dewin Perez, who faced just one batter over the minimum during his five scoreless innings of work. Perez earned the win after allowing one hit and two walks while striking out four batters. Fernando Baez followed with two perfect innings of relief, striking out the side in order in the sixth. Josh Lucas finished off the victory with 1 1/3 innings of scoreless, no-hit ball to earn his first save with State College.

-FARINARO MAKES THE HOME OPENER START FOR SPIKES: Right-hander Steven Farinaro gets the start tonight for the Spikes in the Home Opener. Farinaro pitched for the Gulf Coast League Cardinals in 2013, going 1-3 with a 6.29 ERA in ten appearances, six of them starts. An 11th-round selection of the Cardinals in the 2013 MLB Draft, Farinaro was named First Team All-Region in 2013 as a senior at Head Royce High School in California, going 12-1 with a 0.8 ERA and 157 strikeouts in 77 innings on the hill. The Hayward, CA native signed a letter of intent with UCLA, but elected to sign with the Cardinals after being drafted

-'CUTTERS GO WITH PINTO ON THE MOUND: Right-hander Ricardo Pinto makes the start for Williamsport tonight. Pinto has spent the past two seasons with the Venezuelan Summer League Phillies, posting a 3-5 record with a 2.86 ERA over 14 starts in 2013. In 2012, Pinto went 7-3 with a 2.54 ERA that was good for fifth-best in the VSL. The San Joaquin, Venezuela native also participated in Florida Instructional League action with the Phillies after the 2013 season.

-FAMILIAR FACES IN SPIKES DUGOUT : Manager Oliver Marmol, hitting coach Ramon "Smokey" Ortiz and pitching coach Dernier Orozco all mkae their return to State College this season for their second straight year guiding the Spikes. Athletic trainer Dan Martin and Strength and Conditioning Coach Dan Paugh also come back to their posts for a second consecutive season. Five 2013 Spikes will also resume their time in State College, including pitchers Jacob Booden, Josh Lucas and Jeff Rauh. Infielder Alex De Leon, who caught for the Spikes last year, and outfielder Brian Vigo-Suarez round out the returning cast.

-SPIKE MARKS: The Spikes are The Spikes' Opening Day 30-man roster features players from the United States, Canada, the Dominican Republic, Venezuela and Colombia...Left-hander Ian McKinney, the Cardinals' fifth-round draft pick in 2013, will get the start for State College on Sunday in Williamsport
