-SPIKES BEGIN SERIES AGAINST TIGERS: The State College Spikes, who are number one in the New York-Penn League in batting average at .288 and ERA at 2.54, continue a six-game homestand at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park tonight with the second game of a three-game series against the Connecticut Tigers. State College has won three of the first four games of the homestand, including last night's thrilling victory. State College is 10-11 all-time against the Tigers, including games against the club when they were located in Oneonta, and 4-5 in games at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park.

-LAST GAME: David Washington smashed the first walk-off grand slam in Medlar Field at Lubrano Park history to give the State College Spikes an 8-5 win over the Connecticut Tigers in a wild back-and-forth contest on Saturday night. Washington drove the 0-1 pitch from Tanner Bailey over the center field wall for the game-winner in the ninth. The grand slam was his second of the 2013 season, making him the only player in Spikes history with two in one year. Washington ended the ninth 3-for-5 with a pair of doubles to go with his late heroics and a total of five runs batted in. The 6'5" big man now has six homers and 28 RBI in 30 games this year.

-REYES MAKES FIRST START FOR SPIKES: Right-hander Arturo Reyes heads to the hill to make his third overall appearance, and his first in a starting role, for State College tonight against the Tigers. Reyes, the 40th-round draft choice of the Cardinals this year out of Gonzaga, where he was a teammate of Cardinals first-round pick Marco Gonzales, has a total of 3 1/3 innings for the Spikes to start his pro career without allowing a run. Reyes's last outing came at Hudson Valley, where he allowed one hit and one walk while striking out two over 2 1/3 shutout frames.

-TIGERS GO FORTH WITH MANTIPLY TONIGHT: Left-hander Joe Mantiply will make his seventh appearances and sixth start as a professional tonight for Connecticut. Mantiply, the 27th-round draft choice of the Tigers in the 2013 MLB Draft, was taken out of VIrginia Tech after being drafted for the third time. The southpaw has not gone more than three innings in any outing this season. Last time out, Mantiply gave up two runs, one earned, on three hits while striking out five over three innings of work against Brooklyn.

-RAMOS ON A TEAR FOR STATE COLLEGE: Steven Ramos is the hottest hitter in the New York-Penn League at the moment, despite his 12-game hit streak coming to a close. Ramos hit .533 (24-45) during the streak, and his .421 average will lead the NYPL once he gets back to the minimum plate appearances, as will his .450 OBP.

-SPIKE MARKS: Jimmy Bosco is 3rd in slugging (.541) and T-2nd in runs scored (23)....Bruce Caldwell is T-2nd in runs scored (23), 4th in batting (.333), 3rd in OBP (.419)...Connecticut brings family ties to Central PA as infielder Patrick Leyland, son of Tigers manager Jim Leyland, and outfielder Ben Verlander, brother of Detroit Tigers pitcher Justin Verlander, are on the roster...Carson Kelly has bumped his average up to .275 from a .211 mark on July 3
