Aberdeen IronBirds News Release
Jamestown, NY- The Aberdeen IronBirds took advantage of a wild top of the fifth inning, scoring four runs en route to an 8-3 win Sunday afternoon. Six different IronBirds scored in the game, as the Aberdeen win sets up a rubber match in the series finale tomorrow evening.
Cody Dickson got the start for the Jammers, and he went four innings, allowing just two hits and one walk. He struck out three IronBirds.
The IronBirds would get on the board in the fifth. David Jagoditsh came on in relief of Dickson and would not record an out. He would walk Hector Veloz, hit Jeff Kemp and walk Manny Hernandez to load the bases. He then hit Austin Wynns, putting Wynns on first and scoring Veloz, making it 1-0 Aberdeen. Jagoditsh was pulled in favor of Axel Diaz, but Diaz hit Scott Kalush to score another run, and it was 2-0. Two batters later, Jared Breen hit an RBI sac fly, followed by a Trey Mancini RBI single. All told, in the top of the fifth, Aberdeen scored four runs on one hit, a sac fly, two walks and three hit batters.
The Jammers got a run back in the bottom of the inning off of Aberdeen starter Mitch Horacek.
Edwin Espinal hit an RBI single, and it was 4-1 Aberdeen.
The IronBirds scored again in the sixth and seventh. Kemp walked with one out, and Hernandez followed with a single. Wynns hit an RBI single of his own, and Kalush hit a sac fly, scoring Hernandez. It was 6-1 Aberdeen after six.
In the seventh, Breen led off with a single and stole second for his team-leading ninth swiped bag of the season. Trey Mancini then hit an RBI single. He would come in to score on a Veloz RBI base knock, making it 8-1 Aberdeen.
Jamestown threatened in the bottom of the seventh. They scored two runs and loaded the bases, but Jimmy Yacabonis came out of the bullpen in relief of Jose Figuereo and induced a foul out to end the threat.
Yacabonis stayed on and earned his third save of the season, securing the Aberdeen 8-3 win.
