Aberdeen IronBirds News Release
Jamestown Takes Series Opener
The Jamestown Jammers jumped out to an early four run lead and held on late to take a 6-4 win over the Aberdeen IronBirds last night. Janser Severino got the start for Aberdeen and took the loss. He went five innings, allowed eight hits, four runs (three earned), walking one, and striking out five. The IronBirds' offense was slow to get started, as Aberdeen did not collect their first hit until Trey Mancini reached on an infield single with two outs in the fourth inning.
Eighth Inning Rally Falls Short
The top of the eighth inning was when the Aberdeen bats woke up and went to work. Austin Wynns and Tanner Rust led off with back-to-back singles. After consecutive strikeouts to Jared Breen and Mike Yastrzemski, Mancini roped a two RBI double, and then would score when Conor Bierfeldt hit an RBI single to left field. Unfortunately for the IronBirds, the Jammers got an insurance run in the bottom of the inning and took a 6-4 win.
Power Outage
Since Aberdeen took a 4-0 lead into the bottom of the third inning in Thursday's game in Vermont, the IronBirds have been outscored 17-5. Jared Breen, after having his 17 game hitting streak ended, is now hitless in his last 13 at bats.
Matinee Baseball
Today's 1:05 p.m. start is the second earliest start time so far this season. The IronBirds played an 11 a.m. game in Troy, New York against the Tri-City ValleyCats earlier this season. The series will conclude tomorrow night with a 7:05 p.m. scheduled first pitch. The IronBirds will then head home to open up a three game series with the Vermont Lake Monsters, beginning Tuesday at 7:05 p.m.
On the mound today...
LHP Mitch Horacek will get the start today, his fourth start in five appearances. In his last appearance, he came on in relief of Steve Brault. Horacek got the win in relief, throwing six solid innings of relief, scattering three hits, and striking out three. He did not allow a walk. He has a 2-1 record and holds a 2.04 ERA in 17.2 innings pitched. Since his professional debut where he gave up four runs in the first inning, he has allowed just one run. He will be opposed by LHP Cody Dickson. Dickson is 0-0 with a 5.12 ERA in five previous starts.
