IronBirds Shuffle Past Jammers 8-3

July 21, 2013 - New York-Penn League (NYPL)
Jamestown Jammers News Release

Jamestown, NY- The Jammers put their three game winning streak on the line Sunday afternoon at Diethrick Park. The game would prove to be a tale of two halves as both teams struggled to get their offense's going through the first four innings. The fifth inning would change the entire complexion of the game as Aberdeen would plate four runs to take a 4-0 lead.

The Jammers got just the start from Cody Dickson that they were looking for as he took a no hitter into the fourth inning against the IronBirds. The Pirates fourth round draft displayed great command of his sinking fastball and good break to his curve ball. Matching Dickson inning for inning on the opposing side was left hander Mitch Horacek. Horacek's only blemish came in the bottom of the fifth inning on a Edwin Espinal RBI base hit that made it a 4-1 ballgame.

Aberdeen would follow up their four run fifth inning, that featured two walks and three hit batters by plating two more in the sixth inning to take a 6-1 lead. After allowing two more runs to come around and score in the top of the seventh inning, the Jammers bats started to show some life and put some pressure on Aberdeen pitching.

Jose Figuereo would hit Harold Ramirez to kick off the bottom of the seventh inning and would score two batters later on a groundout by Jeff Roy to give the Jammers their second run of the game. Espinal would follow suite with his second RBI of the night to make it an 8-3 ballgame. The Jammers appeared poised to breakout and continue their battle back into the ballgame. With the bases loaded, Aberdeen turned to reliever Jimmy Yacabonis to face pinch hitter Erich Weiss. Yacabonis would win the battle as Weiss hit a high fly ball into to foul territory that would be caught by the third baseman to end the threat and the inning.

Jamestown would have no real answer the rest of the way against the IronBirds as Yacabonis picked up his third save of the season locking down the 8-3 victory for Aberdeen. Dickson would pick up the no decision and David Jagoditsh took the loos after getting charged for four runs in the fifth inning. The Jammers will look to finish their six game home-stand strong as the two teams finish up their three game series at 7:05 p.m. The Jammers (20-13) will send Chad Kuhl (0-1, 1.20 ERA) to the mound against Steven Brault (1-0, 1.31 ERA) for Aberdeen (17-15).
