-SPIKES FACE VALLEYCATS IN NYPLCS REMATCH: Tonight, the State College Spikes continue their 10th Season in Central PA with the first game of a three-game series against the Tri-City ValleyCats at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park. The matchup reunites the teams who have participated in each of the last two New York-Penn League Championship Series. Tri-City's last regular-season visit to State College was in 2013, when the Spikes swept a three-game series before the ValleyCats took the title. In 2014, Tri-City took two out of three in the regular season at Joseph L. Bruno Stadium in Troy, NY, but State College won its first-ever NYPL championship. All-time, the Spikes are 16-17 against the ValleyCats over the regular season and postseason, including a 7-8 record in games played at Medlar FIeld at Lubrano Park.

-LAST GAME: Danny Martin dashed home with the fourth inside-the-park homer to spark the State College Spikes early, and the Spikes pulled out a 7-5 win over the Connecticut Tigers on Friday night at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park. Martin, who earlier this season tied a Spikes record with two triples in one game, drove a ball to left-center field that rattled around the National Penn Bank Nook to allow him to knock in two runs with his round-tripper. The 2015 24th-round draft choice of the Cardinals out of Azusa Pacific University in California, Martin became the first State College player with an inside-the-park home run since Barrett Barnes at Tri-City on July 4, 2012. The four-base hit extended the State College lead to 4-0, but that would not be the end of the game. Connecticut came back to tie the game in the sixth inning, but the Spikes responded with a three-run sixth inning to retake the advantage for good. Casey Grayson's two-run double and Leobaldo Pina's RBI single were the crucial hits in the frame.

-PEREZ GETS BALL FOR SPIKES: Right-hander Juan Perez makes the start on the mound tonight for State College. Perez took the loss last time out for the Spikes, allowing three runs on eight hits and two walks over 5 2/3 innings at Auburn on Saturday. However, this is the righty's first home start since June 22, when he earned the win over Auburn with five one-run innings on the hill. The San Felipe, Venezuela native struck out a career-high 10 batters over six innings for the win in Game 1 of the Appalachian League Championship Series last year, helping Johnson City to eventually beat Danville for the title. Perez also faced 191 battters without allowing a home run while with the 2013 Gulf Coast League Cardinals.

-VALLEYCATS TURN TO THORNTON: Right-hander Trent Thornton gets his third professional start and fifth overall appearance for Tri-City tonight. Thornton, the Astros' fifth-round draft choice in 2015 out of North Carolina, has gone four innings in a starting role during each of his last two outings, allowing a single run each time. The Charlotte, NC native struck out a career-high six on June 30 at Connecticut. Thornton led the Tar Heels with 81 strikeouts over 62 innings of work this spring.

-GRAYSON DELIVERING BIG NUMBERS: Casey Grayson has reached base in all 19 games he has played so far to post the longest active streak in the New York-Penn League, and has also put together a 10-game hitting streak, which is the second-longest such string in the league. The University of Houston product still leads the NYPL in batting average with a .388 mark, and his .468 on-base percentage is second in the league.

-SPIKE MARKS: Landon Beck is fourth in the NYPL with a 1.13 ERA...Grayson is hitting .583 with runners in scoring position and two outs this season...Leobaldo Pina is hitting .400 in that situation this year...Dailyn Martinez saw his string of innings without allowing an earned run end at 16 1/3 last night in a no-decision...Jacob Evans picked up his first save as a professional last night with two scoreless innings...Evans has also allowed just 4.50 baserunners per nine innings, tying for the best mark among NYPL relievers
