The Williamsport Crosscutters welcomed in the Connecticut Tigers to Susquehanna Bank Park on Saturday night to open up a three game series. The Cutters kicked off the series in style homering twice to pick up a 10-3 victory over the Tigers. Williamsport tallied a season high 17 hits on the night to improve to 12-1 this season at Susquehanna Bank Park.
The Cutters would surrender the game's first run in the top of the first inning. Christin Stewart drove in the Tigers run with a sacrifice fly to centerfield making it 1-0. Mitch Gueller would settle in the rest of the way as he kept the Tigers off of the scoreboard. The Cutters tied the game 1-1 in the third inning on an RBI single from Mark Laird. Grenny Cumana lead off the inning with a double against Connecticut starter Sandy Baez.
Williamsport took their first lead of the game in the fourth inning scoring three times to take a 4-1 lead. Austin Bossart drove in his fifth run of the year with a single to score Jose Pujols. William Cuicas followed with a single of his own driving in a pair of runs. The Cutters turned to the long ball in the fifth inning as Venn Biter drilled a ball to right field for his second home run of the year making it a 6-1 ballgame. Brendon Hayden would join in on the fun launching his second home run of the season to bring in two more runs and give the Cutters a 9-3 lead.
With the win Williamsport improves to 16-5 on the season and Gueller improves to 3-1 on the season. Gueller tossed five innings allowing one run on three hits while striking out one batter. Kenny Koplove tossed 1 2/3 scoreless innings of relief and Anthony Sequeira closed out the game tossing two clean innings allowing just one hit. Austin Bossart finished the game 3 for 4 with 2 RBI while Brendon Hayden went 3 for 4 with 3 RBI. The multi home run game is the second this season for the Cutters while the 10 runs scored set a season high.
