Hudson Valley Renegades News Release
Wappingers Falls, NY (7/11/15)- The Hudson Valley Renegades defeated the Batavia Muckdogs by a score of 5-3. With the win, Hudson Valley improves to 11-10 on the season while Batavia drops to 6-14.
Hudson Valley picked up their first run of the night in the bottom of the second inning on a two-out RBI double by second baseman Oscar Sanay, scoring catcher Taylor Hawkins who singled right before Sanay's double. That 1-0 lead stood until the top of the fifth inning when right fielder Galvi Moscat doubled and scored later in the inning on a RBI ground out by designated hitter Travis Brewster.
The Renegades responded quickly in the bottom of the fifth inning as third baseman Matt Dacey hit a three-run double, giving Hudson Valley a 4-1 lead. In Dacey's first two home games with the Renegades, he now has four extra base hits and five RBI.
That ended the night for Batavia's starting pitcher Gabriel Castellanos (1-2) who allowed four runs off seven hits over four and two thirds innings in the loss.
The Muckdogs closed the gap to 4-3 in the top of the sixth inning, highlighted by a RBI single by Moscat. But that was the closest that Batavia came to tying the game as the Renegades bullpen did not allow a run over three and two thirds innings. Hudson Valley's starting pitcher Travis Ott (2-1) took the win, striking out four batters over five and a third innings while allowing three runs.
The Renegades picked up an insurance run in the bottom of the eighth inning as designated hitter Manny Sanchez reached on an error and was lifted for pinch runner Jose Paez. Paez stole second base, took third base on a throwing error from Muckdogs catcher Brad Haynal while stealing second and came around to score on a wild pitch later in the inning.
Diego Castillo earned his first save of the season after throwing two scoreless innings and struck out one batter.
Notes: Oscar Sanay did a little bit of everything on the evening for Hudson Valley. Outside of the RBI double he hit in the second inning, Sanay made several sterling plays at second base, including turning two double plays to stymie a pair of potential Batavia rallies.
The Renegades continue their three-game series at home against the Batavia Muckdogs, with game two scheduled for Sunday, July 11th at 7:05pm. Sunday is "Captain Hook, Line and Sinker Night" presented by Woodstock Harley Davidson along with AAA Discount Night, where fans receive $2 off their ticket order with their AAA Membership Card. Fans will also get to enjoy a Fireworks Extravaganza after the conclusion of the game. Call 845-838-0094, or visit www.hvrenegades.com to purchase your tickets now.
