-SPIKES COMPLETE SERIES VS. RENEGADES IN MATCHUP OF DIVISION LEADERS: The State College Spikes get a glimpse of a potentional playoff opponent tonight as they welcome the Hudson Valley Renegades to Medlar Field at Lubrano Park for the final game of a three-game series. The Spikes lead the New York-Penn League Pinckney Division by eight games, while Hudson Valley leads the NYPL McNamara Division by nine games and holds a three-game lead on State College for the best record in the league. The three games comprise the back half of a six-game homestand for the Spikes, as well as the only meetings between State College and Hudson Valley in the regular season. The Renegades swept a three-game series from the Spikes last year at Dutchess Stadium. All-time, State College is 9-16 against Hudson Valley and 4-9 in games played at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park.

-LAST NIGHT: Trey Nielsen started and struck out six batters over 4 1/3 innings on the mound for the State College Spikes, but the Spikes yielded two unearned runs that spelled the difference in the Hudson Valley Renegades' 2-0 win on Sunday night at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park.

The Spikes also wore special Pink Ribbon Jerseys for the annual Paint the Park Pink Night, presented by Mount Nittany Health. The jerseys went up for bids in a Jersey-off-the-Back Auction that raised $6,320 for Mount Nittany Health's Breast Care Center through The Foundation for Mount Nittany Medical Center.

Nielsen allowed three hits and two walks during his time on the mound, but left with runners on first and second and one out in the fifth. Hudson Valley then plated the game's first run when Hunter Lockwood advanced to third base on a fielder's choice, then home on a passed ball.

Reliever Tyler Bray allowed the other unearned run in the eighth when Casey Gillaspie crossed the plate after a two-out bunt single by Jace Conrad combined with an error.

-RAUH TO MAKE START FOR SPIKES TONIGHT: Right-hander Jeff Rauh makes his first career start for the Spikes this evening in place of the injured Ian McKinney. Rauh has made 17 relief appearances for the Spikes this season, the second-most in the New York-Penn League. The UC-San Diego product has gone as long as 3 1/3 innings in a single outing this season, which occurred on July 9 against Brooklyn. Rauh is in his second season with the Spikes, and his third in the Cardinals organization after being signed as an undrafted free agent in 2012.

-RENEGADES TO RELY ON ARMENTA: Left-hander Oscar Armenta makes his ninth start of the year for Hudson Valley tonight in the series finale. Armenta, a native of Mazatlan, Mexico, went a season-long six innings in a no-decision against Vermont last time out. The southpaw allowed a run on six hits and three walks while striking out five. On the season, Armenta has made three road starts, and is 0-1 with a 9.00 ERA in 11 innings. Armenta has held right-handed hitters to a .210 average so far in 2014.

-FAMILIAR FACES RETURN TO SPIKES: The Spikes were bolstered by the return of two players today as right-handed reliever Josh Lucas and infielder Brett Wiley returned to the fold. Lucas, who was 5-for-5 in save opportunities for the Spikes earlier this season, came back down from Single-A Peoria today to aid the bullpen. Wiley, a key cog in the Spikes' 2013 playoff push, returns from the Suspended List. The Huntington, IN native hit .337 with two homers and 18 runs batted in over 25 games with the Spikes last year. Left-handed pitcher Ian McKinney was placed on the DL retroactive to August 1 today, while right-hander Joe Scanio was placed on the Temporarily Inactive List retroactive to August 3.

-SPIKE MARKS: Alex De Leon is tied for the NYPL lead in runs scored, as both he and Hudson Valley's Hunter Lockwood have 34...De Leon's seven homers are tied for fourth in the league...Kyle Grana's 14 strikeouts per nine innings are still third-most among NYPL relievers...Robelys Reyes has struck out once every 14.82 plate appearances, the least-frequent rate in the NYPL...Lucas's five saves for the Spikes are still tied for fifth in the NYPL...State College heads to Lowell and NYPL Wild Card leader Connecticut on the upcoming six-game road trip from August 6-11
