-SPIKES SEEK DIVISION TITLE ON ROAD VS. JAMMERS: The State College Spikes have a magic number of three for a second consecutive New York-Penn League Pinckney Division title, and tonight they begin a five-game road trip in search of the crown with a matchup against the Jamestown Jammers at Russell Diethrick Park. Jamestown, Batavia and Williamsport are all in the mix for second place in the division, making Saturday the earliest the Spikes can clinch the title. State College will face Jamestown for three games, then head to Mahoning Valley on Monday and Tuesday to complete the road swing. The Spikes are 5-2 against the Jammers this year, including a two-game sweep at Russell Diethrick Park in June. All-time, State College is 44-43 against Jamestown, with a 22-21 record at Russell Diethrick Park.

-LAST GAME: Chase Raffield missed a game-tying home run by mere inches as the State College Spikes fell shy of completing their late rally in a 5-4 defeat at the hands of the Auburn Doubledays on Wednesday night at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park.

Raffield's eighth-inning fly ball bounced off the right-center field wall just six inches below its top, resulting in a double that scored one run to make it a 5-3 game. State College had runners on second and third with no outs after the near-homer, but saw a runner picked off third base before an RBI groundout from Collin Radack finished the scoring.

The Spikes also loaded the bases with two outs in the ninth on three straight singles, but Raffield's flyout to left ended the game.

Luis Cruz collected three hits for State College, while Radack went 2-for-4 with two runs batted in. Robelys Reyes also produced two hits, incluidng a double, while Nick Thompson knocked in a run with a fifth-inning groundout.

-SPIKES PUT PONCEDELEON ON MOUND: Right-hander Daniel Poncedeleon makes his ninth start and 11th overall appearance a professional for the Spikes this evening. Last time out, Poncedeleon put together perhaps his finest outing of the year, allowing just one run on two hits and two walks over a career-long six innings at Auburn. The Embry-Riddle (FL) University product made his professional debut at Jamestown on June 20, allowing a run on two hits and two walks over two innings. The Cardinals' 2014 ninth-round draft choice has struck out 37 batters and walked 12 this year, with a 13-to-3 ratio in the month of August.

-McRAE THE MAN FOR JAMMERS: Right-hander Alex McRae makes his 13th start for Jamestown in tonight's game. McRae, the Pirates' 10th-round draft choice out of Jacksonville in 2014, started against the Spikes on June 21, and tossed four scoreless innings in a no-decision. The Milwaukee, WI native has reached a decision in each of his last six outings, and earned the win on Saturday against Batavia by giving up three runs on eight hits and a walk while striking out three over a career-long six innings. McRae is 0-1 with a 2.66 ERA in five home starts this season.

-SPIKES MAKE GOOD SHOWING AT NYPL ALL-STAR GAME: State College Spikes pitchers Will Anderson and Kyle Grana each tossed a scoreless inning on the mound for the South squad, and Spikes infielders Robelys Reyes and Darren Seferina each made contributions, but the New York-Penn League All-Star Game finished in a 1-1 tie on Tuesday night at MCU Park. Anderson recorded three straight groundouts in the second, while Grana allowed a hit and a walk, but no runs, in the eighth. Reyes went 0-for-2 after finishing the game at shortstop, while Seferina came on as a pinch-runner in the ninth and stole a base, but was stranded at third to end the exhibition contest.

-SPIKES, CARDINALS EXTEND PDC THROUGH 2016: The State College Spikes have announced a two-year extension of their Player Development Contract (PDC) with the defending National League champion St. Louis Cardinals. The extension maintains the affiliation between the Spikes and Cardinals through the 2016 New York-Penn League season.

-SPIKE MARKS: Kyle Grana's 13.37 strikeouts per nine innings are the second-most among NYPL relievers, and his 53 total whiffs are tied for fifth-most in the league...Will Anderson is fifth in the league with a 2.31 ERA...Darren Seferina is now seventh in the NYPL in batting average at .304...Danny Diekroeger's 15-game hit streak has now surpassed Jake Stone's 14-game string in July for the longest by a Spike this season...Nick Thompson has 36 RBI, and is on the verge of passing Rowan Wick's 38 RBI for the most on the team...Thompson has also scored 39 runs, the third-most in the league...The Spikes' +100 run differential is the best in the New York-Penn League, and their 51 homers are nine ahead of Tri-City for the team lead in the NYPL
