Jammers Use Solid Pitching to Snap out of Funk

JAMESTOWN, NY - It's amazing how much difference a day can make. Last night, the Jamestown Jammers pitching staff gave up 18 hits in a 7-1 loss to the Batavia Muckdogs. Tonight, against that same Batavia offense, Jamestown pitchers only surrendered six hits in a 2-0 shutout victory for the Jammers. The Jammers now have an overall record of 30-33, but still find themselves five games behind the Brooklyn Cyclones in the Wild Card Standings.
Montana DuRapau led the charge for the Jammers on the mound, firing five scoreless innings, only giving up four hits, and striking out six Muckdogs. DuRapau lowered his ERA to 2.29 on the season, and he has arguably been one of the most consistent pitchers for the Jammers all season long. Miguel Rosario would relieve DuRapau in the sixth inning, and he would fire two scoreless innings himself, while striking out four, and only giving up one hit. Luis Urena would work the final two innings for the Jammers, and give up one hit, strike out two, and pick up his second win of the year.
Offensively, the Jammers were held in check until the bottom of the eighth inning, when their bats would come alive for two runs. Catcher Deybi Garcia would start the rally with a double to right field. He would then move to third on a sac bunt by Jammer second basemen Erik Forgione. Garcia would cross the plate on an RBI single by the next hitter, center fielder Elvis Escobar. The ball would be misplayed by Batavia right fielder Wildert Pujols, and that would allow Escobar to reach third on the play. Left fielder Jordan Luplow would then lace an RBI single up the middle, scoring Escobar, and giving the Jammers the lead for good at 2-0. Escobar and Luplow picked up multiple hits on the night for the Jammers.
For the Muckdogs, catcher Rodrigo Vigil picked up two hits on the night. Second basemen Mason Davis, shortstop Javier Lopez, first basemen Carlos Duran, and third basemen Aaron Blanton picked up the other hits for Batavia.
The Jammers will open up a three game series with the State College Spikes Friday at Diethrick Park. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05pm. Alex McRae, the right-handed pitcher from New Berlin, Wisconsin, will be on the mound for the Jammers. He will be opposed by right-handed pitcher Daniel Poncedeleon of the Spikes. It will also be Mystery Ball Night at Diethrick Park. For only $5, fans can randomly pick a baseball signed by minor league, or possibly even major league players. Several current and former Jammers will be included!
