Des Moines Buccaneers News Release
Lincoln got off to a fast 3-0 start and never gave the lead back despite Des Moines cutting the game to within one, and the Stars came away victorious by a score of 6-3.
Lincoln started the game off fast as Ludvig Hoff picked up a loose puck in between the circles as goaltender Nick MacNab had just made a save and wasn't square to Hoff, giving the Stars the lead 1-0 3:45 into the period. The Stars would double that lead with a power play goal at the 5:59 mark from Collin Peters and roll to a 3-0 lead at 10:47. Des Moines would counter as Ty Pelton-Byce hit Patrick Grasso with a pass and the captain beat goaltender Patrik Virtanen on the glove side at the 12:41 mark. Just 37 seconds later Oliver Celec picked up his first goal of the USHL season when Zach Jordan made a pass while withstanding a hard check on the right wing boards to cut the game to 3-2. Lincoln got the last goal of the period from Grant Jozefek as Jozefek threw a pass into the crease that took a bounce off a Buccaneer and ended up in the back of the net 16:08 into the period. The Buccaneers killed off 1:14 of 5 on 3 to end the period and Lincoln, thanks to 4 power plays to Des Moines' none, outshot the Bucs 18-14 in the first twenty minutes.
In the second period the host Stars would again pick up the first goal of the period when Jack Badini scored at the 6:14 mark shortly after the Stars killed off a penalty. The goal chased goalie Nick MacNab and Jan Ruzicka came in in relief. The Buccaneers were able to capitalize with a MidAmerican Energy power play goal at 12:10 of the 2nd period. Zach Jordan handed the puck off to Oliver Celec who found a hole in goaltender Virtanen when it looked like the goalie had everything covered as he hugged the left post. Lincoln went into the locker room at the second intermission on top 5-3.
Lincoln would pick up the only goal of the third period as Trevor Hamilton sniped a blast from the left point right after a faceoff win seconds into a Stars power play opportunity. Virtanen ended the night with 27 saves in the win, Nick MacNab had 15 saves for Des Moines and Jan Ruzicka 11 in relief.
Up next for the Buccaneers is a home contest with the Fargo Force Sunday, March 6th, with puck drop at 5:05 PM.
