Tri-City Storm News Release
Kearney, Ne. - Jake Kielly made 26 saves, four players scored and the Tri-City Storm splashed the Omaha Lancers, 4-0, Friday at Ralston Arena.
After stopping 16 shots through the first two frames, Kielly made ten third-period stops to preserve his fourth shutout of the campaign. The 19-year-old netminder from Eden Prairie, MN has two shutouts in his last three games.
Tri-City played with a lead for nearly the entire game; Wade Allison scored the opening goal late in the first to give the Storm a lead it would not surrender. Dan Labosky, Brandon Duhaime and Paul Washe also scored to round out the Tri-City's balanced effort.
The first-place Storm has 60 points, one ahead of Lincoln in the Western Conference.
After a high-flying start, Wade Allison scored his 22nd goal of the season on Tri-City's first power play. The 18 year old forward received a pass from the goalie Kielly, drove up the right wing, shouldered off two defenders and shot the puck elevated to the top shelf past netminder Kris Oldham with 43 seconds left in the first.
Allison is on an eight-game point streak (5g, 9a), best among Storm players this season. Kielly earned his second assist of the season.
At 1:47 of the second, Cody Fleckenstein received a five-minute major penalty for boarding and a game ejection for hitting Allison into the boards. The Storm used the ensuing man up to score its second power-play marker of the game.
On the man up, with Tory Dello and Joey Matthews playing catch at the point, Labosky snuck to the left wing, took a pass from Matthews and shot the puck off Oldham and into the net at 2:58 of the middle period.
Labosky has nine goals this season, one away from tying his career best set in 2013-14. The third-year winger also has 30 points, two away from his season high. The Storm went 2-for-3 on the power play, giving it man-up tallies in nine of 13 games (15-for-48, 31.3%). The Storm killed off all four Omaha power plays and the Lancers man up is 0-for-17 through the first six games of the season series.
With time running down in the second, Mattias Goransson shot a waffling puck from the left point, deflected by Duhaime, his second Storm goal with 2:15 left.
Duhaime, 18, was acquired by the Storm from the Chicago Steel on Feb. 6. The native of Parkland, Florida has three points in his first eight games with Tri-City.
The Lancers pulled Oldham with eight minutes left; Paul Washe scored into the empty net for his seventh of the campaign with 6:30 left. Oldham made 31 saves in defeat.
