Omaha Lancers News Release
Ralston, NE "" Two power-play goals by the Tri-City Storm proved too much for the Omaha Lancers to overcome in a 4-0 shutout loss at Ralston Arena on Friday night. The crowd of 3,653 was the 11th sellout crowd of the year.
After the Lancers were unable to capitalize on the power play in the first period, Tri-City had their first man advantage of the night, with just under two minutes remaining in the first. Goaltender Jake Kielly left the puck behind the net for teammate Wade Allison. Allison picked the puck up, skated out to center ice, and moved down the right boards into the offensive zone. At the bottom of the right wing circle, the forward fired a shot over the left shoulder of goaltender Kris Oldham for a 1-0 Storm lead with 43 seconds left in the opening period. The goal was Allison's 22nd of the season with the lone assist to the Tri-City goaltender, Jake Kielly.
After Cody Fleckenstein was given a five minute major penalty and a game ejection, the Storm went on another power play. Dan Labosky took the puck inside the left wing circle and let a shot go that went through the left arm of goaltender Kris Oldham for a Tri-City 2-0 lead. The goal came just 2:59 into the second period and was Labosky's ninth of the year. The assists were credited to Joseph Matthews, his fifth, and Tory Dello, his fifth.
Late in the same period, a harmless shot from just inside the left point went in and the Storm took a three-goal lead. Brandon Duhaime threw a low shot on net and it slipped through the pads of Oldham for the 3-0 lead on Duhaime's 12th of the season. It was also Duhaime's second goal for the Storm since being traded from the Chicago Steel. Mattias Goransson was given the lone assist on tally that came with only 2:15 left in period number two.
In the third period trailing by three goals, Omaha pulled Kris Oldham out of the net for the extra attacker attempting a comeback. Paul Washe halted any possible comeback by sending the puck into the empty net for a 4-0 lead with 6:29 left in the game and that held up as the final.
Kris Oldham stopped 31 of 34 shots he faced in Omaha's seventh-straight loss.
The Lancers return to Ralston Arena tomorrow night to face the Waterloo Black Hawks in a crucial game at 7:05 p.m. CT. Fans can listen live to the game beginning at 6:50 p.m. CT with the Valpak Pregame Show on "The Mighty" 1290 KOIL, Mighty 1290 KOIL Mobile APP, www.mighty1290koil.com, and www.FASTHockey.com.
