GREEN BAY, WI - Lucas Michaud scored his sixth goal of the season, but the Muskegon Lumberjacks fell to the Green Bay Gamblers 4-1. Muskegon is now (20-22-5) on the season, sitting in 7th place in the Eastern Conference.
The Gamblers entered tonight's game boasting the best record on home ice in the USHL at (17-4-2). Midway through the first period, Green Bay opened the scoring. Cam Lee fired a shot on Joey Daccord from the blue line, and after the Ottawa Senators prospect made the initial save, forward Jared Spooner chipped home the rebound to give the Gamblers a 1-0 lead.
The Lumberjacks tried to muster up a couple scoring chances, but could not capitalize as Gamblers goaltender Adam Huska kept Muskegon off the board in the first period of action.
The Gamblers controlled the early part of the second period, but Daccord was able to come up with a couple of big saves, to keep the deficit at one. Midway through the second period, Charlie Gerard rifled a shot off of the goal post, and Collin Adams was denied on a breakaway. With under one minute to go in the second period, Ryan Blankemeier batted the puck into the back of the net, to give the Gamblers a two goal lead after two periods of play.
The Gamblers added two quick goals early in the third period to increase their lead to four. Ryan Smith slapped home the Gamblers third goal of the game 2:41 into the third period. Two minutes later, Nick Poehling netted his 12th of the season to give Green Bay a four-goal lead. The Lumberjacks would add a power play goal late in the third period. Lucas Michaud knocked home a rebound after a shot from Mitch Eliot to cut the deficit to three goals. However, that is where the game would end, as the Lumberjacks dropped their second game of the three game road trip 4-1.
The Muskegon Lumberjacks (20-22-5) will look to rebound tomorrow in a rematch with the Green Bay Gamblers (28-13-6) for the latter half of weekend series at the Resch Center. The next Lumberjacks home game will be Friday, March 11th, when the Sioux City Musketeers (19-27-1) travel to Muskegon for a weekend series.
