
Stars Win Home Opener against Vipers

SALT LAKE CITY - The Salt Lake City Stars, the official NBA G League affiliate of the Utah Jazz, defeated the Rio Grande Valley Vipers 125-124 tonight, earning the club's first wire-to-wire victory of the season.
Utah Jazz two-way player Justin Wright-Foreman led the way for the Stars for the third-straight game, scoring 22 points on 8-of-13 (.615) from the field and 4-of-6 (.667) from beyond the arc. Utah Jazz two-way player Jarrell Brantley finished with 19 points, four rebounds, three steals, one assist and one block. Miye Oni, currently on assignment from the Utah Jazz, posted 18 points on 7-of-11 (.636) from the field. He also tallied five assists, three rebounds, two steals and one block in 31 minutes.
All five Vipers starters scored in double figures, led by Angel Rodriguez, who finished with a game-high 24 points on 8-of-12 (.667) from the field. The guard also tallied five assists, three rebounds and two steals. Jaron Blossomgame recorded 22 points and seven rebounds off the bench. Sindarius Thornwell also posted a 20-plus point outing with 21 points, 11 rebounds and four assists.
The Stars, who trailed by as many as 13 points in the second quarter, came out of halftime strong, outscoring the Vipers 34-24 in the third to take a two-point (93-91) lead with 12 minutes left to play. The fourth quarter was a back-and-forth battle with two lead changes and four ties.
The Stars shot 56.3 percent to the Vipers 48.3 percent and held the advantage in rebounds (43-37), assists (27-25) and points in the paint (72-52). The Vipers knocked down more three-pointers (17-12), grabbed more steals (9-8) and committed fewer turnovers (16-19).
The Stars travel to face the Santa Cruz Warriors on Sunday, Nov. 17. The game will tipoff at 6 p.m. (MT) and can be streamed on Twitch. Salt Lake City will return to Bruin Arena on Wednesday, Nov. 20 at 7 p.m. (MT) against the Sioux Falls Skyforce.
