Des Moines Buccaneers News Release
The Lincoln Stars scored two goals per period and once they took the lead never gave it back as they came away with a 6-3 victory at Buccaneer Arena on Friday.
The Lincoln Stars jumped out to the lead 7:25 into the game when Tanner Laczynski buried a second chance from in tight on Nick MacNab's left and the newcomer to Lincoln from the Chicago Steel picked up his 44th point of the season. Des Moines tried to use a MidAmerican Energy Power Play chance to get on the board halfway through the period but not only was Lincoln able to kill off the penalty, they fed Collin Peters as he came out of the penalty box and he grabbed his own rebound and banked the puck in off of MacNab at the 9:53 mark to give his squad a 2-0 lead. Back to back penalties were called on Des Moines and while the officials signaled a penalty shot the Stars had the choice and elected to go with a 2 minute minor called which left 61 seconds of 5 on 3 advantage but the Buccaneers killed off both penalties to end the period trailing 2-0 after being outshot 18-7.
Lincoln again saw Tanner Laczynski score the first goal of the period in the second at 13:37 when Sam Kauppila went into the right wing corner as the Stars dumped the puck in on a penalty kill and Kauppila skated it around the net and fed it out to Laczynski who scored his first shorthanded goal of the season. The Buccaneers responded at 15:21 when Michael Montambault fed Georgy Gorodetsky and his shot left a rebound high in the air that Will Harrison grabbed, dropped and quickly fired into the net. Unfortunately the Stars would counter just 52 seconds later as a long pass from Lincoln's end split the D and left Collin Peters on a breakaway which he buried high blocker side to allow Lincoln to skate off the ice with a 4-1 lead.
Both sides traded goals back and forth as Tye Ausmus scored at the 7:15 mark but Justin Howell answered just 17 seconds later when Kenny Hausinger fed him a pass from inside the left circle and Howell buried it from Patrik Virtanen's left to cut it to a 5-2 game. That three goal lead didn't last long as less than a minute later Collin Peters finished off his hat trick at the 8:29 mark. Des Moines got one more goal out of Justin Howell when his linemates Hausinger and Keefer got a shot on Virtanen and his left pad save left a juicy rebound in the slot that Howell finished off at the 13:40 mark.
Nick MacNab ended up with 30 saves in the game, Virtanen had 29 saves in the win. Up next for the Buccaneers is a home game vs. the Madison Capitols on Saturday, February 13th.
