Muskegon Lumberjacks News Release

DUBUQUE, IA - The Muskegon Lumberjacks fell to the Dubuque Fighting Saints 3-2. The Lumberjacks are now (1-1) on their current four game road trip.

The Fighting Saints scored one minute into the game to take an early 1-0 lead. Willie Knierim intercepted a pass from Lumberjacks goaltender Devin Cooley and wrapped the puck into the open net for his ninth of the season. The Lumberjacks would counter with five minutes to go in the period. The top line of Matej Paulovic, Rem Pitlick, and Collin Adams hooked up for a power play goal. Adams ended his nine-game scoreless streak with a backdoor one-timer. The game would remain tied at one after twenty minutes of play.

Dubuque added their second goal of the night one minute into the second period. After a Lumberjacks turnover, the Fighting Saints had a 2-on-1 scoring chance, and their leading scorer Nathan Sucese shot the puck past Cooley, to give Dubuque a 2-1 lead. Dubuque would hold onto the one goal lead through two periods.

The Fighting Saints scored another early period goal to extend their lead to two goals. Sucese scored his second goal of the game to give Dubuque a two-goal advantage. The Lumberjacks tried to battle back, when newcomer Tyler Irvine scored his first goal in a Lumberjacks uniform, after a perfect pass from Bo Hanson sent him in on a breakaway. Muskegon pulled Cooley in the final minute of the game, but could not get anything past Dubuque goaltender Jaxon Castor, and fell 3-2.

The Muskegon Lumberjacks (16-18-4) will look to split the weekend series, when they take on the Dubuque Fighting Saints (26-13-1) tomorrow evening at 8:05 p.m. Muskegon will return home next weekend to host the Madison Captiols for a weekend series.
