YOUNGSTOWN, OH- The Youngstown Phantoms defeated the Fargo Force Friday night by a final score of 5-1. After falling behind in the first period, Youngstown scored five unanswered goals to comfortably top the Force.

Denis Smirnov drew first blood for Fargo about 12 minutes into the first frame, when his one-timer beat Ryan Bednard up over his shoulder.

The Phantoms would respond in a big way less than two minutes later. Defenseman Connor Moore scored twice in 12 seconds to give Youngstown a lead it would never relinquish. Moore's goals were the second fastest back to back goals by the same player in USHL history.

"We started out slow, but after their goal I think we really woke up. The guys were buzzing tonight, and we had a lot of chances that went our way," said Moore.

Youngstown would add a power play goal in the second period, when Cam Morrison jammed home a pass from Chase Pearson for his 26th goal of the season. The Phantoms would also tally a shorthanded goal, as Noah Lalonde sprung free near the blue line and beat Ryan Wischow with a laser wrist shot to give Youngstown a 4-1 lead. Morrison would pot his second goal of the contest on an empty netter with just 17 seconds left in regulation.

Phantoms forward and former Fargo Force member Tommy Apap assisted on Lalonde's goal, and was happy to get a big victory against his former team.

"Moore's two goals in one shift really got us going. I thought we did the little things well, blocked a lot of shots. It felt good to get the win," Apap said.

The two teams will meet again in North Dakota Saturday night. Puck drop is set for 8 p.m. eastern time.
