Texas Stars News Release
SAN ANTONIO, Texas - The Texas Stars, American Hockey League affiliate of the NHL's Dallas Stars, mounted a full attack in the second period and tallied three goals to top the San Antonio Rampage 4-2 at the AT&T Center tonight. The Stars swept the Rampage over the weekend, outscoring them 12-3 in the two nights.
The Rampage caught a break early in the first period to take the early advantage. Jordan Nolan sent a shot from the right corner and somehow found the back of the cage for his first goal of the season.
Texas responded as Colton Hargrove continued to impact the offense. Defenseman Taylor Fedun and Denis Gurianov helped feed the winger in front of the net breaking inside off the offensive zone at 8:28. Hargrove has been hot, scoring three goals in his last four games while Gurianov picked up where he left off before his call-up to Dallas. Fedun's first action with Texas ended with an assists and three shots on net.
San Antonio notched one more as Klim Kostin tallied a power play goal for the Rampage at 10:40. His third of the season pushed San Antonio ahead and held up through the second intermission.
Villi Husso's improvement from one night prior was drastic. The Stars tested the netminder in the second period with 12 shots on goal but yielded no change on the scoreboard until the third period. The goaltender finished the game with 29 saves. Landon Bow earned the win for Texas with 19 saves in the road contest.
Texas' outshot the Rampage 24-13 in the final two periods and the effort finally broke through as Travis Morin notched his first goal if the season. Rookie defenseman Brady Norrish launched a shot from the blue line that redirected off the Stars alternate captain and into the net.
Moments later, the Stars would go on the power play which later turned into a 5-on-3 advantage. Morin sent the puck to the crease where Roope Hintz was awaiting the pass to score his second of the season and the eventual game winning goal. The winger battled at the top of the crease, slipping his second shot through Husso's legs. Gurianov tacked on one final exclamation point to the game in the final 30 seconds as the Stars finished 2-for-6 on the power play.
The Stars are now 2-0-0 against the Rampage this season with 12 more games against San Antonio. The teams will meet again in San Antonio on Nov. 23 at 7:00 p.m. to open a set of three games in three nights.
