Colorado Eagles News Release
SAN DIEGO, CA. - Colorado Eagles forward Andrew Agozzino netted a power-play goal and a shorthanded tally, but it would not be enough, as the Eagles fell to the San Diego Gulls, 3-2 on Saturday. Pavel Francouz made 40 saves on 43 shots in the loss, as Gulls forward Troy Terry collected the game-winning goal late in the third period to seal the victory.
An early power play for the Gulls would lead to the game's first goal, as forward Max Comtois would collect a pass in the right circle before firing a wrister that would beat Francouz and give San Diego the 1-0 edge just 2:26 into the contest.
The second period would see both teams exchange opportunities, but the goaltenders would stand strong to keep it a 1-0 San Diego lead after 40 minutes of action. Colorado would outshoot the Gulls, 19-13 in the middle frame.
The scoring would break open in the third period, as Agozzino would wrap behind the net of San Diego goalie Kevin Boyle before roofing the puck, top-shelf to tie the game at 1-1 just 2:06 into the final frame.
The Gulls would waste little time in reestablishing their lead, as forward Max Jones would flick a rebound in the low-slot into the back of the net at the 3:01 mark of the third period.
Colorado would earn a 5-on-3 power-play later in the period and they would take advantage, as Agozzino would fire a shot from the side of the net that would ricochet off a San Diego defender and past Boyle to level the score at 2-2 with 12:32 remaining in the contest.
As time began to tick down in regulation, Terry would field a rebound on the side of the cage and stuff it home to put the Gulls back in the lead, 3-2 at the 12:56 mark of the third stanza.
The Eagles would pull Francouz in the final 90 seconds of the contest, but it would not produce a goal and San Diego would hold on for the 3-2 victory.
Colorado finished the night going 1-for-7 on the power-play, while the Gulls buried one of their five chances on the man-advantage. Each team finished the contest with 43 shots on net.
The Eagles return to action on Tuesday, November 13th when they host the Stockton Heat at the Budweiser Events Center in at 7:05pm MT.
