Syracuse Crunch News Release

SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The Syracuse Crunch put up four power-play goals in a 7-2 victory over the Hershey Bears tonight at the War Memorial Arena.

Twelve different Crunch players collected points, including multi-point performances from Carter Verhaeghe (1g, 1a), Erik Cernak (1g, 1a), Cory Conacher (1g, 1a), Andy Andreoff (1g, 1a), Taylor Raddysh (1g, 1a) and Ben Thomas (2a). The win pushes Syracuse to 5-5-1-0 on the season while sweeping the two-game season series against Hershey.

Goaltender Eddie Pasquale earned the win in net for the Crunch with 17 saves. Ilya Samsonov stopped 23-of-30 for the Bears. Syracuse converted on 4-of-5 power play opportunities and went 6-for-8 on the penalty kill.

The Crunch built a quick two-goal lead less than seven minutes into the game. After Mitch Hults forced a turnover behind the net, Verhaeghe grabbed the loose puck and roofed it all alone from the slot. Cernak then ripped a one-timer from the left point on the power play off assists from Conacher and Verhaeghe.

Syracuse went up by three at the 11:52 mark with another power-play goal. Andreoff won a clean faceoff in the left circle and sent the puck up to Cernak. His quick feed set Conacher up to blast a one-timer bar down.

The Crunch added two more in the second period to make it 5-0. The team scored their third consecutive power-play tally 9:24 into the frame. Ross Colton passed down to Raddysh near the crease. He faked a shot to pull Samsonov down and easily tucked the puck around the outstretched goaltender. Three minutes later, Andreoff slid the puck five-hole with the help of Raddysh and Nolan Valleau.

Hershey finally got on the board with two goals on the man-advantage just 51 seconds apart late in the middle stanza. Mike Sgarbossa solved Pasquale with a wrister from the left circle off assists from Lucas Johansen and Riley Barber. Less than a minute later, Garrett Pilon won the draw in the right circle and sent the puck back for Johansen to set up Barber for a one-timer from the high slot.

Syracuse added two more in the third period to take a decisive victory. At the 9:43 mark, Cameron Gaunce fired through traffic from the blue line for the team's fourth power-play goal on the night. Assists went to Thomas and Alex Barre-Boulet. With 4:59 remaining in the game, Volkov got the puck from Thomas, sped through the neutral zone and down the right side to pot his third of the season five-hole.

The Crunch host the Binghamton Devils on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
