Pair of Goals for Donato Lead P-Bruins to 5-2 Win

Providence, RI - The Providence Bruins defeated the Wilkes-Barre Scranton Penguins Sunday afternoon 5-2 to conclude their three-game weekend. The P-Bruins got two goals from Ryan Donato along with goals from Martin Bakos, Zach Senyshyn and Joel Messner while Zane McIntyre made his eighth start of the season in net.
Providence dominated the first period offensively, outshooting the Penguins by an 18-3 margin. Those shots translated into two goals on the scoreboard, starting with Donato on the power play. Cody Goloubef passed the puck around the boards to Donato behind the net, setting him up for a wrap-around attempt. Going left to right around the net with speed, he found Tristan Jarry's five-hole for his second goal of the year to give the P-Bruins a 1-0 lead. The lead doubled at 17:25 thanks to a scramble behind the net. Anton Blidh and Colby Cave fought for the puck with Penguin defenders and it trickled out to Bakos between the hashes. He quickly fired a shot by Jarry for his third goal of the season as Providence brought a 2-0 lead into the locker room.
The offensive barrage continued into the second with the P-Bruins outshooting their opponent 31-15. At 3:32 Senyshyn potted his fifth goal of the season off a breakaway chance. Connor Clifton set up the look in the neutral zone, swiping a pass and finding Senyshyn who split the defense. In alone he went bar-down with a wrister to make the score 3-0. The fourth P-Bruins goal was a career milestone for Messner, as he netted his first AHL goal while on the power play. Peter Cehlarik set up Messner for a one-time blast at the point, and Providence took a commanding 4-0 lead into the second intermission.
Wilkes-Barre Scranton put up a fight in the third period to make a game of it, starting with a goal from Derek Grant. At 9:43, Tobias Lindberg sent a bouncing pass to Grant between the circles. He quickly settled the puck and snapped a shot by McIntyre to end the shutout bid and make it a 4-1 game. Exactly one minute later, Anthony Angello made it 4-2 by tapping in a centering feed from Teddy Blueger on the right doorstep. Donato made sure that is where the comeback bid ended, scoring his second goal of the game at 14:36. Jan Kovar sent a backhand pass from the left wing corner to him in the high slot, and his turnaround shot got under the pad of Jarry. His first career multi-goal game secured the victory as the P-Bruins went on to a 5-2 win.
McIntyre stopped 20-22 shots while Jarry stopped 34-39. Providence was 2-6 on the power play and 3-3 on the penalty kill. The P-Bruins are back in action Friday at the Dunkin Donuts Center when they welcome the division rival Lehigh Valley Phantoms to town at 7:05pm.
