Stars Suffer First Shut Out Loss of the Season, 3-0
November 23, 2014 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Texas Stars News Release
SAN ANTONIO, Texas - 32 saves by San Antonio Rampage goaltender Dan Ellis was the difference on Sunday evening in a 3-0 loss for the Texas Stars at AT&T Center in front of 4,375 in attendance.
It was the first shutout loss for the Stars (6-6-4-0) this season as the team prepares for three home games this week, all against divisional opponents.
Texas will host Oklahoma City on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. to start that stretch.
A late first period goal by Mark Mancari with 1:05 remaining was all the Rampage netminder would need in the win. Jack Campbell took the loss for the Stars despite stopping 32-of-34 shots in net.
Connor Brickley also scored for the Rampage (12-6-0-0) with a power play strike at 1:49 of the second. Drew Shore added an empty-net goal with just over two minutes to play in regulation to round out the game's scoring.
The shots on goal were nearly even with San Antonio leading 35-32, but Ellis proved to be the difference with a series of key saves in the third period, including a breakaway chance and a 2-on-1 rush late for Texas.
The Stars finished 0-for-4 on the power play, while the Rampage went 1-for-3.
Three Stars: 1. Dan Ellis (SA) 2. Connor Brickley (SA) 3. Mark Mancari (SA)
The Texas Stars entered the 2014-15 season as the AHL's defending Calder Cup Champions. Single-game tickets and season ticket packages for the 2014-15 campaign are on sale now. For more information, call (512) GO-STARS (467-8277) or visit TexasStarsHockey.com.
