Admirals Fall to Wild in Shoot-Out
November 23, 2014 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Milwaukee Admirals News Release
Des Moines, IA--Goalie John Curry stopped 33 shots to lead the Iowa Wild to a 2-1 shootout win over the Milwaukee Admirals Sunday night.
It was Milwaukee's first loss in Des Moines since losing to the then-Iowa Chops Feb. 28, 2009.
The lone goal in the shootout for either team was scored by Iowa's Zack Phillips.
The loss was the first blemish on Admirals goalie Magnus Hellberg's record this season. He fell to 6-0-1 on the season. The Admirals are 7-0-0-1 against the Wild in Iowa since the team joined the league at the beginning of the 2013-14 season.
Iowa's Tyler Graovac opened the scoring, but it took 57:37 to get the first goal of the game. Wild forward Jordan Schroeder was chasing a loose puck into the high slot Admirals zone. Hellberg chased after the loose puck and was able to knock it to his right but Graovac tracked the puck down and fired it into the empty net to give the Wild a 1-0 lead.
Watson tied the game with his seventh goal of the season with 48 seconds remaining in regulation. Brendan Leipsic skated to the middle of the blue line and fired a low shot on goal. Curry made a left pad save but Watson banged the rebound in to force the overetime. Leipsic and Anthony Bitetto recorded the helpers.
Milwaukee allowed a season-low 20 shots. The Admirals finished with 34 shots. The Admirals record is 3-3-0-1 when the team outshoots its opponent.
Milwaukee's next home game is against Chicago Wednesday, November 26 at 7 pm.
