Grand Rapids Griffins News Release

DETROIT - The Detroit Red Wings today recalled center Stephen Weiss from his conditioning loan with the AHL's Grand Rapids Griffins.

A native of Toronto, Ontario, Weiss skated in two games with the Griffins this weekend and scored in each contest, lighting the lamp just 19 seconds in to the team's road game against the Lake Erie Monsters on Friday and adding a power play tally in last night's rematch in Grand Rapids. The 31-year-old forward has been limited to 27 games with the Red Wings since signing with the club prior to the 2013-14 season, recording four points (2-2-4) and 12 penalty minutes. Weiss has skated in 681 career NHL games with Florida and Detroit, notching 398 points (147-251-398) since 2001-02.

Originally drafted by the Panthers in the first round (fourth overall) of the 2001 NHL Entry Draft, Weiss is the Panthers' all-time leader in games played (654) and assists (249). He has also recorded 65 points (30-35-65) in 93 career AHL games with the San Antonio Rampage, Chicago Wolves and Griffins. He skated in 172 games with the OHL's Plymouth Whalers from 1999-02, tallying 223 points (89-134-223).
