
Stars Shoot Past Aeros 4-1

Cedar Park, TX - The Houston Aeros (18-12-3-3, 42 points) were defeated by the Texas Stars (20-11-3-2, 45 points) 4-1 on Friday night in front of 4,834 fans at Cedar Park Center. Texas used two power-play goals and outshot Houston 39-13 en route to its third straight win over the Aeros. Stars forwards Matt Fraser, Cody Eakin and Antoine Roussel, as well as defenseman Jordie Benn each scored to push Texas past Houston. Aeros goalie Matt Hackett (13-12-3) stopped 35 of 38 in the defeat. Texas goalie Christopher Nilstorp (15-10-0) stopped 12 of 13 Houston shots (a season low) in the defeat. Defenseman Kyle Medvec scored Houston's lone goal, as the team saw its road winless streak expand to seven games (0-3-2-2). Houston will return home at 7 p.m. on Saturday to host Lake Erie at Toyota Center.
Houston claimed a 1-0 lead 6:30 of the first period, as defenseman Kyle Medvec scored his second goal of the season. Medvec finished off a centering pass from Nick Petersen, beating goalie Christopher Nilstorp for the game's opening goal. Rookie forward Johan Larsson added an assist on the Houston tally. Texas countered with a power-play goal at 13:02, with Matt Fraser scoring his team-leading 15th of the season. Fraser took a pass from Colton Sceviour and beat Matt Hackett with a wrist shot. Center Travis Morin also added an assist on the play for the 1-1 score.
In the second period, Texas moved in front 2-1 with a power-play goal 8:49 into the period. Morin slipped the puck cross-ice to Jordie Benn, who scored his sixth goal of the season. The Stars expanded their lead to 3-1 at 19:07, as Antoine Roussel scored off a breakaway for his seventh goal of the year.
Texas added an empty-net goal at 18:53 of the third period, as Cody Eakin made it a 4-1 final.
The Aeros will play at Texas on Friday, a 7:30 p.m. at the Cedar Park Center. Houston will return home on Saturday, Jan. 12 and Sunday, Jan 13. The Aeros host the Lake Erie Monsters at 7:05 p.m. on Jan. 12 and the Charlotte Checkers at 5:05 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 13. On Saturday, the first 3,000 fans to the game receive a "Rod Ryan" Bobblehead. Ryan is the popular-morning-show Host of 94.5 FM the Buzz's "Rod Ryan Morning Show". On Sunday, the team will hand out photos of "Chilly" to the first 2,000 fans, celebrating "Chilly's Birthday". Also, every Sunday throughout the season is a Family Day, where fans may purchase four tickets, parking and four Aeros prizes starting at $54.
