Salt Lake City Stars News Release
SALT LAKE CITY - The Salt Lake City Stars, the official NBA G League affiliate of the Utah Jazz, sweeps the Memphis Hustle 125-119 in the second game of their back-to-back set tonight at the Maverik Center.
The Stars were led by a trio of 20-plus point performances, highlighted by Stacy Davis, who notched the Stars first Triple double since Feb. 6, 2017 (Sundiata Gaines). Davis tallied 24 points on 10-of-16 (.625) shooting, to go with 17 rebounds, and 10 assists. Frank Jackson led the night with an astounding 30 points on 10-of-18 shooting, including 4-of-7 (.571) from three-point range, marking his third 30-plus point performance of the season. Jeenathan Williams added 21 points, nine rebounds, and four assists for the Stars. Meanwhile, all Salt Lake City reserves contributed double-digits including Eli Cain (16 points), Christian Vital (12 points), and Isaiah Miller (10 points).
Memphis was paced by Matt Hurt, who finished with a team-high 28 points and added two rebounds and two assists. Damien Jefferson posted 22 points off the bench, leading the Hustle's reserves.
The game was a wire-to-wire victory for the Stars, with the biggest lead of the night held at 34 points.
The Stars came out shooting, going .550 percent from the field and an even .500 percent from behind the arc. Despite Matt Hurt's 14-point contribution, Christian Vital ended the first quarter with an exciting buzzer beater setting the Stars up 36-25.
Salt Lake City's offense continued to dominate Memphis as they strengthened their lead to 25-points to end the second frame. Thanks to Jackson's 28-point contribution on 7-of-11 from downtown the Stars managed to push their lead to the final frame, claiming their biggest lead of the night at 34 points. The Stars claimed the second game on their homecourt against the Hustle 135-105.
Salt Lake City held the advantage in three-pointers made (22-9), rebounds (56-32), assists (32-27), and fast break points (24-12). While the teams managed to tie in shots blocked (2-2) and steals (9-9).
The Stars will continue their three-game homestand on Saturday, Feb. 4 at Vivint Arena against the Rio Grande Valley Vipers. Tip-off will be at 7 p.m. MT and will host the Jr. Jazz; offering balloon-artists, bounce-houses, face painters, scavenger hunts, autographs, and more fun activities.
