Greensboro Swarm News Release
(GREENSBORO, NC) - The Greensboro Swarm, the NBA G League affiliate of the Charlotte Hornets, emerged as victors against the Grand Rapids Gold (Denver Nuggets affiliate) on Wednesday evening at the Novant Health Fieldhouse 112-108. In a back-and-forth contest, which saw both sides swap the lead 13 times, Greensboro improves to 4-9 on the regular season while Grand Rapids falls to 4-11.
Following a stretch of solid performances, Jalen Crutcher led the way for the Swarm with 22 points and three assists. Crutcher, who recently became the organization's all-time leading 3-point scorer, was 50 percent from beyond the arc Wednesday evening on 4-of-8 shooting.
Grand Rapids had a solid showing from guard Grant Golden who led the team with 31 points, 13 rebounds and eight assists. With tonight's contest Golden grabbed his fifth consecutive double double. The Gold also had double-digit point performances from Adonis Arms (19), Jared Butler (17), Chasson Randle (16) and Trevon Duval (12).
In a true neck-and-neck battle, both teams entered the halftime break tied at 50-50. Greensboro's Kobi Simmons and Ty-Shon Alexander paved the way for the team in the opening half and combined for 23 points. Notably, Alexander picked up 12 points in seven minutes of action.
It appeared that the Swarm were on pace to pick up its first home win of the regular season in the closing seconds of the contest. However, a three-point basket from Grand Rapids' Butler drew the Gold to within two points with only seconds remaining. On the ensuing Greensboro possession, Simmons was fouled and sent to the free-throw line where he would make both baskets to cement the victory.
In addition to Crutcher, the Swarm had five more players record double-digit point performances: Simmons (16), Alexander (15), James Bouknight (15), Theo Maledon (14) and Kai Jones (10).
