
Santa Cruz Warriors to Host Black History Month Events, Presented by Chase

SANTA CRUZ, CA - In partnership with Chase, Santa Cruz Warriors coaches, players and front office staff will be hosting Black History Month events throughout the month of February. The team will honor Black history and support the ongoing pursuit of racial justice by accurately preserving history and educating the community.
Below is a look at the Santa Cruz Warriors' schedule of Black History Month events:
FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 3:
Black History Month Celebration, presented by Chase - The Santa Cruz Warriors will host a Black History Month Celebration game against the Ontario Clippers on February 3. Warriors players will wear Black History Month themed jerseys, presented by Chase, with each Warriors player auctioning his uniform after the game to benefit Black Surf in Santa Cruz. The first 1,000 fans will receive a Black History Month t-shirt, presented by Chase.
SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 4:
Black Surf Santa Cruz Event, presented by Chase - The Santa Cruz Warriors, Black Surf Santa Cruz and Chase will collaborate on an event with coaches and basketball personnel to eliminate access to barriers within the sport of surf and create an inclusive community. Black Surf instructors will lead Santa Cruz Warriors coaches and personnel through a two-hour surfing lesson to promote physical and spiritual wellness through surf. SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 5:
Book Discussion, presented by Bookshop Santa Cruz - NAACP Santa Cruz County Branch, the Santa Cruz Warriors, and the Santa Cruz County Office of Education welcome Ibram X. Kendi and Nic Stone for a discussion held at Kaiser Permanente Arena about their new book, How to Be a (Young) Antiracist-a dynamic reframing of the concepts shared in Kendi's adult book, with young adulthood front and center. TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 21:
Helping Hands, presented by Chase - Santa Cruz Warriors front office staff and Chase volunteers will visit an elementary school to read books focusing on historical black leaders to students.
MONDAY, FEBRUARY 27:
Black History Month Webinar, presented by Chase - The community is invited to a one-hour panel that will dive into unconscious bias and intersectionality. Panelists include Golden State Warriors Player Development Coach Anthony Vereen and two-time WNBA Champion and Olympic Gold Medalist, Jewell Loyd. The conversation will be moderated by Santa Cruz Warriors Sideline Reporter, Zena Keita.
