SANTA CRUZ, Calif. - The Salt Lake City Stars, the official NBA G League affiliate of the Utah Jazz, fell to the Santa Cruz Warriors 140-126 at the Maverik Center tonight.
Salt Lake City was paced by Utah Jazz assignment player Brice Sensabaugh, who tallied a game-high 28 points, six rebounds, and six assists. Utah Jazz assignment player Taylor Hendricks, recorded 22 points and seven rebounds, to go with three blocks. In his first start of the season, Jazz two-way player Johnny Juzang collected 21 points, adding three rebounds and two assists. Romeo Langford came off the bench to notch 20 points, on a perfect six-of-six from beyond the arc. Utah Jazz two-way guard Josh Christopher, led Salt Lake City in assists with 11, while netting 15 points in his second double-double of the season.
The Warriors were led by Gui Santos, who tallied a near double-double with 27 points and nine rebounds. Lester Quinones scored 25 points for Santa Cruz with eight rebounds. While Donovan Williams came off the bench to secure a double-double on 16 points and 10 rebounds.
The Stars came out of the gate strong, jumping to a 34-29 lead at the end of the first quarter. Salt Lake City pushed its lead to 16 points with the help of Sensabaugh's 10 points in the quarter, and Christopher's three-pointer at the buzzer, to go up 76-60 at the half.
After the break, the Warriors began to battle back, going on an eight-point run as they closed in on Salt Lake City's lead. The close third quarter put the Stars up by just one-point as they headed into the final frame 103-102. Santa Cruz continued to fight back and took the lead for the first time during the night in the fourth, ultimately securing the win 140-126.
The Stars will head to Portland, OR to take on the new Rip City Remix (G League affiliate of the Portland Trail Blazers) this weekend on Friday, Nov. 24, at 1 p.m. (MT) and Sunday, Nov. 26, at 4 p.m. (MT) at the Chiles Center. The teams' first franchise match-up will be broadcast on NBAGLeague.com for both Friday and Sunday's games.
