Stars Fall in Kearney

The Lincoln Stars (35-20-2-4) lost their third straight game as the Tri-City Storm (46-11-3-1) pulled away with a 5-2 victory on Friday at Viaero Center.

Dalton Norris opened the scoring 10:26 into the second period after a goalless first.

Aidan Thompson and Lucas Wahlin recorded the assists on Norris' 26th goal of the season.

Andrew Strathmann evened the game at one goal apiece at 13:57, ripping a shot past Cameron Whitehead for his fifth goal in 2021-22.

After 40 minutes, the game was tied 1-1 with both teams knotted up at 21 shots apiece.

John Druskinis gave Tri-City their first lead of the game at 2:23, but Gleb Veremyev provided the equalizer just over three minutes later.

Veremyev scored on a Stars 5-on-3, potting the rebound after Norris' one-timer was stopped by Arsenii Sergeev. Thompson picked up the secondary helper, giving him 58 assists this season.

The 20-year-old broke the single-season franchise record for assists, passing Chris Fournier's 57-assist season in 2000-01. Thompson's 82 points this year is the third-highest total in team history.

Tri-City rattled off two goals 40 seconds apart in response with strikes from Jeremy Wilmer and Dane Dowiak. Mitchell Miller scored under four minutes later.

The Stars lost 5-2, dropping their third straight game. Lincoln was 1-for-6 on the power play and 4-for-4 on the penalty kill.

Lincoln takes on the Tri-City Storm at the Ice Box in the regular-season finale before opening up the Clark Cup Playoffs on Monday, April 25th.
