Storm Ties USHL Record for Most Points in Regular Season

LINCOLN, NE. - The Tri-City Storm tied the USHL's Tier I Era record for the most points recorded in a single season in Saturday's 3-2 overtime road victory over the Lincoln Stars. The 2021-2022 Tri-City Storm joined the 2011-2012 Green Bay Gamblers and the 2012-2013 Dubuque Fighting Saints as the only teams in league history to record 98 points in a single season. Daimon Gardner, Drew Montgomery, and Josh Eernisse scored goals for the Storm in the victory. Tri-City has a first round bye in the opening round of the Clark Cup Playoffs.

Doug Grimes gave the Stars a 1-0 lead at 10:57 of Saturday's 1st period with a powerplay goal. The goal was his eighth of the year and was assisted by Yu Sato and Keaton Peters. Daimon Gardner scored his first goal as a member of the Tri-City Storm at 14:50 of the 1st period to tie the game at 1-1. The goal was Gardner's third scoring play of the season and was assisted by Cameron O'Neill and Drew Montgomery. Lincoln outshot Tri-City 14-7 in the 1st period, and Saturday's 2nd period began tied.

Drew Montgomery gave Tri-City a one-goal lead at 2:39 of the 2nd period. Montgomery's goal was his sixth of the year and was assisted by Daimon Gardner and Vinny Borgesi. Lincoln's Killian Kiecker-Olson scored his 20th goal of the season at 6:53 of the 2nd period to bring the score to a 2-2 tie. Mason Marcellus and Henry Nelson each notched an assist on the play. The Stars outshot the Storm 9-6 in Saturday's 2nd period, and the 3rd period began with the two rivals tied at 2-2.

Overtime was required to determine a winner of Saturday's rivalry matchup after the 3rd period ended without any additional scoring plays. Josh Eernisse scored his ninth goal of the season ten seconds into the overtime period to seal the Storm's victory. Kieran Cebrian recorded an assist on the scoring play. Sebastian Wraneschitz made 30 saves on 32 shots to record the win in net for Tri-City. Cameron Whitehead made 14 saves on 17 shots and picked up the loss in goal for Lincoln. The Stars outshot the Storm by a 32-17 margin in the game.

Tri-City finished the 2021-2022 regular season with a final record of 47-11-3-1. The Storm won the series season against the Stars with a record of 9-0-1-0.
