Salt Lake City Stars News Release
SALT LAKE CITY - The Salt Lake City Stars, the official NBA G League affiliate of the Utah Jazz, fell to the Stockton Kings 114-91 tonight at Bruin Arena. The Stars will next compete in the MGM Resorts NBA G League Winter Showcase, the league's premier in-season scouting event, playing their first of two Showcase contests on Thursday, Dec. 20, at 6 p.m. (MT) against the Fort Wayne Mad Ants.
The Stars (8-9) were led by Trey Lewis, who scored 20 points off the bench (14 in the first half), marking his first 20-point game of the season in his fifth game with Salt Lake City. Isaiah Cousins finished with 19 points and a team-high six assists, tallying his 11th game this season leading the team in assists. Willie Reed recorded 14 points and a team-high-tying nine rebounds, while Utah Jazz two-way player Tyler Cavanaugh scored 11 points and grabbed six rebounds.
Stockton (7-7) was paced by Sacramento Kings two-way player Troy Williams, who registered a 20/10 game with game-highs of 23 points and 11 rebounds off the bench in his first game with Stockton. Daniel Ochefu recorded 16 points and nine rebounds, and Sacramento Kings two-way player Wenyen Gabriel scored 14 points and collected five boards. Kalin Lucas finished with a point/assist double-double, scoring 15 points and handing out an NBA G League season-high-tying 16 helpers.
The Kings built a 12-point advantage (22-10) in the first quarter, but the Stars cut it to six points to end the period (31-25). Stockton began the second frame on a 7-0 run, ultimately extending its advantage to as many as 29 points in the third quarter and again in the fourth en route to the 23-point victory.
Salt Lake City led Stockton in blocks (8-3) and second chance points (15-14). The Kings held the advantage in points in the paint (56-46), assists (29-22), turnovers (15-19) and field goal percentage (.506-.437).
The Stars will travel to the MGM Resorts NBA G League Winter Showcase, the league's premier in-season scouting event, next week in Las Vegas. The four-day, 27-game scouting event features the league's 27 teams each playing two regular-season games in front of representatives from all 30 NBA teams. For the first time, the event will be held in December, allowing NBA team personnel the opportunity to evaluate two-way and NBA G League talent in advance of the 10-day signing period and two-way guarantee deadline.
The Stars will begin Showcase play with a contest against the Fort Wayne Mad Ants (Indiana Pacers affiliate) on Thursday, Dec. 20, at 6 p.m. (MT). The game will be broadcast on ESPNU.
