Montgomery Biscuits News Release
MONTGOMERY, Ala. - The Huntsville Stars (16-10) finished with 13 hits, seven of which were doubles in an 8-4 win over the Biscuits (16-10) in the series-opener Wednesday morning at Riverwalk.
Nich Shaw, Nick Ramirez and Adam Weisenburger ripped a double each in the game while Jason Rogers and Shawn Zarraga finished with two doubles.
Most of the damage was done early for the Stars of starter Victor Mateo (3-3) whose three-game winning streak was snapped. Huntsville scored twice in the first and twice in the third to lead 4-2. The Stars added a single run in the fifth, got a two-run blast from Nick Ramirez in the sixth then added a run in the ninth.
Montgomery tied the game at two in the first inning thanks to balk from Tyler Cravy and a run-scoring triple from Richie Shaffer. Cravy then settled in, retiring 11-straight. The Biscuits would not score again until Taylor Motter's eighth inning two-run homer to make it 7-4 Stars.
Cravy went five innings while striking out seven and only allowing two hits for the win.
The Biscuits and Stars will play a double-header starting at 6:00 Thursday evening. Game one will have RH Dylan Floro facing off with RH Drew Gagnon. In game two, Montgomery will send RH Jared Mortensen to the mound to face-off with RH Jacob Barnes.
