
Four-Run Fourth Bolsters Braves to 5-1 Win

PEARL, MS - The Mississippi Braves (11-15) used a two-run home run and a two-run triple in the fourth inning to power their way to a 5-1 win over the Jacksonville Suns (12-14) in the opening game of a five-game series from Trustmark Park on Wednesday.

After being shut down by Anthony DeSclafani in the first three innings, the Braves found success against him the second time through the order, receiving a two-run homer from Seth Loman (HR, 5) and a two-run triple from David Rohm to give Mississippi Braves a 4-0 lead through five innings. Mississippi added another run on the first home run of the year from Elmer Reyes (HR, 1) in the fifth to complete their scoring.
Jacksonville would get their lone run in the top of the eighth inning thanks to a double off the bat of J.T. Realmuto, scoring Danny Black to spoil the shutout.
Jacksonville was unable to capitalize on numerous potential scoring opportunities, finishing 1-for-13 with runners in scoring position on Wednesday, leaving nine men on base in the process.
Aaron Northcraft (W, 2-1) earned his second win of 2014 by shutting out the Suns through five innings, allowing only two hits in the process, while finishing with six strikeouts.
Anthony DeSclafani (L, 3-3) dropped his second straight start for Jacksonville after allowing five runs (all earned) on seven hits in five innings of work, while striking out two batters and failing to walk a single Brave on Wednesday.
The Suns received two innings of scoreless relief from Tyler Higgins, with Greg Nappo coming on to throw a perfect bottom of the eighth inning.
Danny Black, Alex Burg, and J.T. Realmuto each had multi-hit games in Wednesday's loss.
The Suns and Braves will be back at it Thursday night, as game two is set to begin at 8:00 p.m. ET from Trustmark Park in Pearl, MS. The Suns will send out the lefty Andrew Heaney (2-1, 2.25) and will be countered by Braves right-hander David Bromberg (0-2, 2.70).
