Mississippi Braves News Release

PEARL, MS -- Mississippi Braves RHP Lay Batista has been reassigned to High-A Lynchburg from Double-A Mississippi. In corresponding moves, free agent LHP Eric Berger has been signed by the Atlanta Braves and assigned to Double-A Mississippi.

Batista, 24, was 0-1 with an 8.22 ERA in three outings with the Double-A Braves this season. He had a brief stint on the DL with a right triceps strain earlier this month. Batista exited the April 9 game against the Generals after dropping the ball on the mound during his delivery. A native of the Dominican Republic, Batista was signed by the Braves on December 20, 2013.

Berger, 28, was traded by the Astros to Oakland on March 29. He appeared in three games at Triple-A Sacramento to start the season before being released. He gave up one earned run (a home run) in 1.1 innings pitched. Berger was originally signed by the Cleveland Indians in the eighth round of the 2008 draft out of the University of Arizona. He spent five years in the Indians system before being acquired by Houston in 2013.

The Mississippi roster has 25 active players and 5 disabled.
