
Gillheeney, Generals Blank Wahoos 5-0 In Series Opener

JACKSON, TENN. (APRIL 30, 2014) - The Jackson Generals (13-13) got back to .500 with a 5-0 win over the Pensacola Blue Wahoos (10-6) in game one of the five game set at the Ballpark in Jackson Wednesday night.
James Gillheeny (1-0, 1.64) went six shutout innings on just two hits and earning his first win of the season. Kevin Rivers wasted no time giving his club the lead they would not relinquish. He homered off Pensacola starter Daniel Corcino (2-3, 4.32) in the bottom of the first over the right field wall. The homer scored Ketel Marte, who reached on a fielder's choice, and gave the Generals the early 2-0 lead.
Mickey Wiswall led off the second inning for Jackson by getting hit by a pitch. He would later score on Nate Melendres's sacrifice fly to give the Generals a 3-0 advantage in only the second inning.
Corcino settled down after that, retiring six of the seven batters he faced in the third and fourth innings. But Jackson got back on the scoreboard in the fifth. Leon Landry, who entered the game for Jamal Austin in the second inning, doubled to lead off the fifth. He came around to score on Dan Paolini's single three batters later and the Generals increased their lead to 4-0.
The lead became 5-0 just one inning later as Mickey Wiswall hit his second homer of the year. Meanwhile, relievers Moises Hernandez and Mayckol Guaipe retired all nine batters they faced to preserve the shutout. Jackson's pitching staff also tied a season low giving up just two hits in the game.
The Generals and Blue Wahoos will match up again Thursday night at the Ballpark in Jackson for game two of the set with first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m. Robert Stephenson (2-1, 3.62) will start for Pensacola as Jochi Ogando (0-2, 11.37will go for Jackson. It's also Dollar Night presented by MobleNation at the ballpark.
