PEARL, MS -- A crowd of 5,009 students from across the state filed through the gates for another School Day Game at Trustmark Park to see the Mississippi Braves defeat the Jacksonville Suns 5-1 Wednesday afternoon. The series continues Thursday at 7:00 PM.
The M-Braves (11-15) scored five runs on nine hits while the Suns (12-14) plated one run on eight hits. Aaron Northcraft (2-1) limited the Suns to just two hits and a walk while striking out six batters in five innings of work. Kyle Kubitza, Elmer Reyes and David Rohm each had two hits at the plate. Rohm and Seth Loman also drove in two runs apiece.
Loman blasted a two-run home run in the bottom of the fourth to put the M-Braves out front 2-0. Kubitza and Gustavo Nunez followed with back-to-back two-out singles before Rohm delivered a bases-clearing triple to make it a 4-0 game.
Reyes launched a solo homer to left field in the fifth to extend the Braves lead to 5-0.
The Suns cut the Braves lead to 5-1 in the eighth. Danny Black and Alex Burg singled. J.T. Realmuto then delivered a double to the right field corner, driving home Black.
