
Stampede Roll Past Jam 105-87

BOISE, Idaho, April 8, 2009 - The Idaho Stampede utilized seven players scoring in double figures to defeat the Bakersfield Jam 105-87 in Boise on Wednesday night. The well-balanced effort helped the Stampede overcome an outstanding offensive performance by Bakersfield guard Trey Johnson, who finished the game with 29 points.
Bergersen scored nine of his 15 points in the first quarter, helping the Stampede gain a 26-19 lead at the end of the quarter, a lead they would not relinquish. Bakersfield started the second quarter with an 8-2 run but Idaho answered with 20-6 run starting with 9:01 remaining in the half and capped by a pull up jump shot by Jamaal Tatum with 4:47 left. Idaho went into halftime with a 60-49 advantage.
At halftime, Stampede forward Brent Petway was presented the 2008-09 NBA D-League Defensive Player of the Year award. Petway blocked five shots in the game; three of those came in the third quarter and led to points on the offensive end for the Stampede. Idaho managed to hold Bakersfield to just 15 points in the quarter and went into the fourth quarter with a commanding 88-64 lead.
"Brent came out tonight and showed our fans and the league why he earned defensive player of the year honors," said Stampede Head Coach Bryan Gates. "I couldn't be happier with the effort our team put forth tonight."
Roberto Bergersen led all Stampede scorers with 15 points while Lance Allred finished with his 18th double-double of the season, scoring 14 points and pulling down 13 rebounds. Mohammed Abukar and Jamaal Tatum added 14 points apiece. Mildon Ambres, Brent Petway, and Kevin Burleson each dropped in 11 points. Burleson also dished out 10 assists.
Bakersfield center Nick Lewis scored 16 points and grabbed eight rebounds, while Terrell Everett added 12 points, in the loss.
The two teams will face-off again on Friday night. Tip off is scheduled for 7:00 pm MST.
