
Nelson's free throw lifts Toros over Vipers

AUSTIN, TX - DeMarcus Nelson scored a game-high 30 points and grabbed 10 rebounds as the Austin Toros defeated the Rio Grande Valley Vipers 106-105 at the Austin Convention Center. The Toros tied the team's franchise regular season record for the most wins in the regular with the victory over the Vipers.
"It was a great game tonight, we made mistakes early but we were able to make the plays at the end to win the game," Austin Toros head coach Quin Snyder.
DeMarcus Nelson hit 1-of-2 free throws with 14.9 left to play in the fourth quarter to put the Toros up 106-105. The Toros led by as many as 15 points in the fourth quarter and held off the Vipers late charge to improve to 30-18 on the season.
Jamaal Thomas scored 20 points on 8-of-13 shooting off the bench. Dwayne Jones scored 14 points and Eric Dawson chipped in 13.
Rio Grande Valley was led in scoring by 22 points from Trent Strickland. Other Vipers scoring in double figures included Ernest Scott (16), Julian Sensley (14), Craig Winder (13), Marcus Hubbard (13) and Jared Jordan (11).
The Toros play the last home game of the regular season against Rio Grande Valley on Friday at 8:30 p.m. at the Austin Convention Center.
