
St. Louis Blues sign Three & Send to Worcester

St. Louis, MO, Oct. 10, 2003 â Senior Vice President and General Manager Larry Pleau announced today that the club has signed defensemen Trevor Byrne and Aaron MacKenzie along with forward Colin Hemingway. As per club policy, terms of the deals were not disclosed.
Byrne, 23, played four seasons at Dartmouth College, being named to the ECAC-Second Team three times and was also named to the ECAC All-Rookie Team in 1999-00. The 6-2, 208-pound defenseman served as Dartmouth's captain during his senior year last season, registering 24 points (eight goals, 16 assists) in 34 games, posting his third straight 20-point season. Byrne led the team to its first 20-win campaign in more than 50 years and graduated as the school's all-time leader in games played with 130. The Hingham, Massachusetts native was St. Louis' fifth round selection, 143rd overall in the 1999 Entry Draft.
MacKenzie, 22, spent four seasons at the University of Denver, and was named WCHA Co-Defensive Player of the Year and earned All-WCHA first team honors this past season. He was also named the University of Denver's Most Valuable Player, Most Inspirational Player and Best Defensive Player. The 6-0, 191-pound defenseman finished second on the team with 32 points and ranked first on the team among defensemen. The Terrace Bay, Ontario native played in 157 games at the University of Denver, registering 73 points (19 goals, 54 assists) along with 164 penalty minutes.
Hemingway, 23, played four seasons at the University of New Hampshire and was named to the Hockey East All-Star Second Team and was a Second Team All-American last season. He led New Hampshire to their second straight Hockey East regular season and tournament title last season and helped lead the Wildcats to the National Championship game, falling to Minnesota 5-1. The 6-0, 194-pound forward finished first on the team with 33 goals during the 2001-02 campaign and was named to the Hockey East First All-Star team. The Surrey, British Columbia native was St. Louis' eighth round selection, 221st overall in the 1999 Entry Draft.
All three players have been assigned to Worcester.
