
IceCats Announce Captain

WORCESTER, MA- IceCats General Manager Larry Pleau today confirmed the IceCats 2003-2004 captains and announced a pair of transactions for the American Hockey League (AHL) club. Third-year âCat Jeff Panzer will wear the "C" this season, while Aris Brimanis and Terry Virtue will serve as alternate captains. Additionally, goaltender Levente Szuper was recalled from his loan to Peoria of the ECHL and forward John Sabo was released by the âCats from his amateur tryout contract.
Panzer is about to begin his third season with the IceCats. The Blues 2001 free agent signee participated in all 80 IceCats games last season, scoring 22 goals and 32 assists: 80(22/32/54). His rookie season saw him bag 26 goals and 53 points: (26/27/53). The two-time Hobey Baker finalist and 2000 National Champion at the University of North Dakota, captained the Fighting Sioux during his senior year.
Signed to an AHL contract prior to the start of the season, Szuper was recalled from the Peoria Rivermen of the ECHL. Szuper spent the previous three seasons with the former Saint John Flames. He was a 2000 draft pick of Calgary.
The IceCats will open their 10th Anniversary season on the road tonight against the Manchester Monarchs. Pregame on WTAG is 7:05 PM. Saturday night, Worcester will host the Providence Bruins at 7:05 PM. For more information call 800-830-CATS.
