Bears Name New Captain

HERSHEY – The HERSHEY BEARS announced today the captains for the 2003-04 season. The announcement was made by the BEARS coaching staff following Friday's practice at HERSHEYPARK Arena.

Veteran defenseman D.J. Smith was named HERSHEY'S captain for the new year. For home games during the first half of the season, defenseman Brett Clark and forward Steve Brule will serve as assistant captains. On the road for the first half, defenseman Pascal Trepanier and left wing Brad Larsen will hold down the assistant captaincy. During the second half of the season, the four assistants will switch, with Larsen and Trepanier wearing the "A" at home, and Clark and Brule assisting Smith for all away games.

The BEARS also announced a roster move after practice. Right wing Rob Voltera was assigned to Quad City (UHL) to bring the roster to 22 players for tomorrow's opener at Syracuse.

HERSHEY opens its 66th AHL season on Saturday against the Syracuse Crunch at 7:30. Air time with John Walton on BIG 92.7 FM is 7:10 p.m. The BEARS open up the home portion of the 2003-04 season on Saturday, October 18th at GIANT Center.
