Trenton Thunder News Release

RICHMOND, VA - After a late, game-tying home run for the Trenton Thunder by Mike Ford forced extra-innings, the Richmond Flying Squirrels walked off with a squeeze bunt in the bottom of the 12th for a 5-4 win.

Your Thunder led for nearly the entire game until the bottom of the 8th inning. After Carlos Garcia tied the game with a leadoff homer in the inning, Slade Heathcott and Miguel Gomez followed with a pair of doubles to put the Squirrels ahead 4-3.

In the 9th inning, Carlos Alvarado retired the first two men before facing Mike Ford. Your Thunder first baseman had been without a home run at Double-A since April 17th and promptly launched a solo home run to right field to tie the game and send it to extra innings.

Your Thunder outhit Richmond in the ballgame, 12-10, and they had raced out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the 5th inning before the piecemeal comeback in the middle innings. Trenton's lineup featured a three-hit game by Billy McKinney (3-for-5, 2B, BB) and two hit games from Ford, Zack Zehner and Rashad Crawford.

Patching the game from the 9th through 11th innings was Cody Carroll who retired all nine men he faced while striking out three. Carroll has allowed one earned run in 6.2 innings over three starts to begin his Double-A career (1.35 ERA) while striking out 10.

The Thunder pile on the bus following the game and head home to begin a six-game homestand against the Hartford Yard Goats and Bowie Baysox. Following Monday's day-off, your Thunder are set for a scheduled 7:00 p.m. first pitch Tuesday night with 6:40 p.m. pre-game coverage on 920 AM WNJE and online at www.trentonthunder.com/broadcast.
