Fightin Phils 4 RubberDucks 3
WP: Drew Anderson (4-2) LP: Leandro Linares (0-1) Save: Colton Murray (2)
Summary
Bobby Bradley drove in two runs and socked his eighth home run of the year, but Akron's defense kept Reading in the game, falling 4-3 Sunday at Canal Park.
Turning Point
Facing a 1-0 deficit in the seventh, the Fightin Phils roughed up reliever Leandro Linares after starter Thomas Pannone pitched 6.2 shutout innings. With the bases loaded, Angelo Mora lined a three-run double to right center. All runs were unearned after a dropped flyball by Luigi Rodriguez.
Winging It
Thomas Pannone faced trouble in the third and sixth innings with two runners on, but escaped any real damage. For the second time in his fifth start as a RubberDuck, Pannone shut out the opponent. Three of his five strikeouts ended the inning. Pannone finished with 6.2 innings pitched, giving up no runs or walks and allowing only four hits before being pulled for Leandro Linares in the seventh. Linares gave up 3 runs, none earned, two hits and two walks in the seventh before Cole Sulser came on in relief. Sulser gave up one earned run on a Mitch Walding single to right field. He finished with 2.1 innings, including a perfect ninth. Reading starter Drew Anderson went six innings, giving up three hits, one run and punching out five. Drew Murray pitched 1.1 hitless innings for his second save of the year.
Duck Tales
Bobby Bradley smoked a homer in the fourth that hit the Canal Park slide to break a 0-0 tie on an 0-1 count with two outs. Joe Sever followed up his two-single night from the previous game with another two-single performance. The Ducks threatened in the eighth after scoring two unearned runs after a fielder's choice error off the bat of Tyler Krieger. Francisco Mejia's sac fly drove in Mark Mathias after he walked in the inning, with Krieger scoring on a Bradley groundball single up the middle to make it 4-3. Rehabbing Cleveland Indians outfielder Lonnie Chisenhall went 0-4 with a strikeout as the designated hitter.
