RICKLES HOMERS TWICE, SINKS RUBBERDUCKS: + Reading Fightin Phils (28-24) starter Brandon Leibrandt (4-2) was stellar and Nick Rickles hit two home runs as they beat the Akron RubberDucks 5-1 on Saturday night at Canal Park. Rickles hit two home runs in a game for the first time since May 22, 2013 against Cedar Rapids when he played for the Beloit Snappers. He also recorded five RBIs for the first time in a game in his career. The game was scoreless through the first four innings as Leibrandt and RubberDucks pitcher Matt Whitehouse (1-3) were pitching well. Reading struck first in the top of the 5th inning as Rickles hit a two-run home run off Whitehouse to give the Fightins a 2-0 lead. Kyle Martin scored the other run as he hit a one-out single before Rickles at-bat. Akron got a run off Leibrandt in the bottom of the 5th inning as Francisco Mejia hit a RBI single to score Joe Sever for their only run of the game. Leibrandt left the game after 6 2/3 innings, as he allowed just one run. Victor Arano pitched 1 1/3 innings in relief and struck out one batter while giving up one hit. Reading scored three runs in the top of the 9th inning as Rickles hit a three-run home run off RubberDucks reliever Mitch Brown. Mitch Walding and Martin both scored after reaching base via walks. Colton Murray pitched a scoreless bottom of the 9th inning to finish the 5-1 win for Reading. KINGERY CONTINUES REMARKABLE RUN: + Scott Kingery hit .300 (9-for-30) with one double, five home runs, six RBIs, nine runs scored, one stolen base, and an .833 slug- ging percentage in six games for the Fightin Phils to take home Eastern League Player of the Week honors last Monday, May 23rd -> Thursday, he led off the bottom of the first with his 17th home run and went 4-for-4, finishing a triple shy of the cycle + EASTERN LEAGUE RANKS : .314 average (7th); 17 HRs (1st), 65 Hits (T-2nd), 33 XBH (1st), .667 SLG% (1st), .391 OBP (6th); 51 runs (1st), 4 triples (T-1st), 136 TBs (1st), 13 SBs (T-2nd), 207 At-Bats (T-3rd) - He along with IronPigs outfielder Dylan Cozens were named co-hitters of the month in May by the Philadelphia Phillies ODDS & ENDS FROM (AND AFTER) THURSDAY'S BLOWOUT: + The 14 runs and 9 XBH matched a season-high while the 5 home runs and 19 hits were the most in a game this season + All nine starters finished with at least one hit and a run scored, and seven of the nine had multi-hit games + RHP Miguel Nunez (1-4) set a new high for a Fightins reliever with 4.0 scoreless innings after taking the loss in game one Tuesday + Mitch Walding hit two home runs for the first time in his career, then proceeded to hit two-home runs in Friday night's game at Akron + Since May 12th, Angelo Mora has hits in 11 of his last 15 games, batting .317 (19-for-60) with 4 doubles, 4 HRs, and 18 runs batted in HOME RUNS HELP: + The Fightin Phils hit 5 home runs on Thursday to set a new season high after combining to hit 6 HRs in Wednesday's double- header -> They are now 24-11 (14-5 at home) when getting a HR this season. They lead the Eastern League w/ 71, 21 more than 2nd place Erie + Reading leads all minor league teams with 71 HRs, while Lehigh Valley (61) & Clearwater (48) lead their respective leagues + By comparison, the Philadelphia Phillies have 54 home runs in their first 52 games (25th in MLB; T-9th in the National League) + Last year's record-setting offense finished with 185 home runs in 141 games. Yet the 2017 Fightin Phils are currently on pace to finish with 187 home runs over the course of this 140-game regular season.
